This role supports overall course conditions by managing irrigation schedules, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining pumps, valves, and related infrastructure. The Maintenance Irrigator is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course irrigation system to ensure optimal turf health and water efficiency. This role supports overall course conditions by managing irrigation schedules, troubleshooting system issues, and maintaining pumps, valves, and related infrastructure. Working under limited supervision, the Maintenance Irrigator partners with the Superintendent and leadership team to proactively address irrigation needs and support course operations.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and adjust irrigation systems to maintain optimal turf and landscape conditions
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation components including pipes, valves, sprinkler heads, controllers, and pumps
- Program and manage irrigation schedules based on weather conditions, soil moisture, and course needs
- Perform preventive maintenance on irrigation systems and related equipment
- Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues within irrigation control systems
- Assist in installation and upgrades of irrigation infrastructure
- Maintain pump stations, filtration systems, and water distribution equipment
- Conduct regular system audits to identify leaks, inefficiencies, or coverage issues
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, water usage, and system performance
- Coordinate with maintenance team to support overall course operations and special events
- Ensure compliance with water usage regulations and environmental guidelines
- Maintain inventory of irrigation parts and supplies; assist with ordering as needed
- Train and support team members on proper irrigation practices and equipment use
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Support additional maintenance functions as needed, including equipment or facility support
- Implement and support all company initiatives and safety programs
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Minimum 2 years of experience in irrigation systems, turf management, landscaping, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems, preferably in golf course or landscape environments
- Knowledge of irrigation components, electrical systems, and water management principles
- Ability to read irrigation plans, manuals, and technical specifications
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members; bilingual (Spanish) skills may be beneficial in some locations
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Schedule varies based on business needs; early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required
- Work is primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to mechanical equipment, water systems, chemicals, and electrical components
- Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), and operating equipment
- May be exposed to noise, moving parts, and environmental elements
