Job Summary:

The Regional Garage Manager II is responsible for providing expert knowledge and guidance in vehicle maintenance functions and regulatory compliance efforts. The Garage Manager will lead and manage all Garage employees for all AFW facilities in a designated region (Webster, Conroe, Katy). The Garage Manager must know DOT, FMCSA, and CSA rules and regulations to ensure American Furniture Warehouse is compliant and will meet all federal, state, and local requirements. The role must be able to work independently, with minimal direction and a high level of creativity. Travel will be required for this position but a company vehicle is provided. A valid drivers license is required and ability to be insured by our insurance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
  • Work with team to assess equipment needs and repairs by using the most cost-effective practices.
  • Supervise the maintenance program for all transportation equipment within assigned locations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of records of inspections and also repairs of vehicles and warehouse power equipment in assigned location(s).
  • Troubleshoot equipment problems and work to maintain fleet vehicles and equipment proactively.
  • Ensure that technicians are trained on current operating procedures, are adequately equipped, and are motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate maintenance department personnel, keeping records of all such training and evaluating the performance of employees as required by policy.
  • Track and monitor department expenditures to remain within the department’s budget using maintenance management software.
  • Ability to identify and recruit high-quality team members for all vehicle maintenance positions.
  • Participate in mitigating, managing, and resolving conflicts to help minimize or eliminate the impacts this causes to employees and the company.
  • Develops and maintains outside vendor and service provider relationships.
  • Conduct on-site reviews and safety audits across assigned locations.
  • Attend the bi-annual OTR Safety Awards meetings.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Compensation Package:

Pay rate: Annual salary range is pay grade G $59,441 to $110,390. Offer depends on experience, length of service, and any other qualifying factors

Supervision Given and Received:

This position may supervise the work of up to 15 employees. This position is supervised directly by the Fleet Maintenance Director.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong experience with engine repairs on PACCAR, Cummins, Mack, medium and heavy-duty automotive, etc.

  • Proficient in using computer diagnostics software to pinpoint engine, transmission, electrical, and electronic issues.

  • Ability to order and maintain parts inventory as needed.

  • Thorough knowledge of diesel trucks and tandem repairs and maintenance.

  • Proficient with Fleet Management Software and Fuel Management Systems.

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) laws.

  • Ability to maintain a congenial calm communication style and the ability to diffuse and clarify the needs of drivers to achieve clear solutions.

  • Ability to lead a team, manage personnel, conduct regular training, and maintain schedules.

  • Ability to meet company guidelines for driver eligibility.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Computer Skills:

Ability to navigate multiple computer systems, type 35 wpm, advanced familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.), and advanced internet research skills. Ability to regularly use computers for ordering, communication, documentation, scheduling, maintenance of organizational content on shared drives. Ability to apply technology up to and including Electronic Logging Devices, iPads, dispatch software, and windows. Experience with McLeod Fleet Locate, Omnitracs, Atlass, and Davie 4 Insight preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

Certifications and licenses related to business and safety, and 609 AC certification are preferred. Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred).

Education and Experience:

Two-year college or university program degree preferred; High School diploma required; equivalent combination of education and experience accepted in lieu of degree.

Over 3 years of experience working on Heavy Duty Trucks and Trailers as well as medium-duty trucks.

Over 2 years of experience working with cars, pickups, and other various equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires the ability to maneuver in confined and at times congested areas.
  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, & bend for 8 hours a day.
  • Requires constant use of arms, hands, fingers, eyes, legs, and back.
  • Performing equipment repairs may require the ability to lift, lower, push, and pull all sizes of truck shop parts up to 100 lbs. frequently and the ability to handle/manipulate up to 250 lbs. frequently.
