AFPM will consider both local and remote candidates for this position. AFPM Washington, DC-based employees combine both in-office and remote work into their schedules using up to 6 remote workdays a month.

As we continue to grow and expand our reach, we are excited to announce an opening for a Manager, Programs & Committees - Process Safety. This position will manage AFPM’s Advancing Process Safety (APS) Program which includes management of a suite of subgroups, its support staff and supporting member engagement across the industry. This position is responsible for developing strategic resources, analyzing data, and applying technical expertise to enhance program effectiveness.


Responsibilities

  • Manages, develops, and guides staff in supporting the suite of subgroups within the Advancing Process Safety Program, suite includes: Process Safety Workgroup, Process Safety Regional Networks, Industry Learning and Outreach, Webinar Program, Hazard Identification, Practice Sharing Program, and Walk the Line Practice Sharing Program.
  • Liaison with API in their Advancing Process Safety Programs, Human and Organizational Performance, Mechanical Integrity and Process Safety Site Assessments®.
  • Establishes and supports strategies to develop resources that are shared with our members to help them improve their safety programs.
  • Applies technical knowledge to review, validate and improve safety-related resources and guidance materials shared with members.
  • Conducts qualitative and quantitative data analysis, using tools such as Power BI or other similar tools, to identify trends, measure program effectiveness and inform strategic decisions.
  • Identifies the appropriate information to disseminate within and across programs and regions which is timely, accurate and relevant.
  • Fosters positive, professional, and collaborative relationships with program groups, committee leadership, and participants through outreach and new program member onboarding.
  • Provides recommendations regarding increasing member participation and making efficient improvements for assigned programs and processes.
  • Contributes to departmental strategy, planning and brainstorming sessions.
  • Communicates and collaborates with AFPM colleagues, within and outside the department, to ensure program and meeting quality standards and process consistency are maintained.
  • Coordination with AFPM colleagues around policy and regulatory support on process safety related issues (i.e. RMP PSM.)
  • Represents AFPM at meetings and industry-related conferences to enhance program visibility and maintain strong industry connections.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years' experience working in a process safety, operations and/or engineering role within the downstream, midstream or upstream industry.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience successfully developing, facilitating, and managing committees, working groups, teams and/or professional networks.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and reporting, including ability to synthesize information and generate recommendations for shared learning.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and safety performance metrics
  • At least four years of staff management experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and relationship-building skills, including effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30% of the time to attend meetings and conferences.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Power BI).
  • Ability to demonstrate professionalism, emotional intelligence, and reliability throughout all activities, conversations, and interactions.
  • Exceptional customer/client/member services skills to ensure member expectations are met or exceeded, issues are addressed promptly, and communication is frequent and responsive.
  • Ability to work in collaborative team environment defined by a culture of excellence, mutual support, open and honest feedback, and goal achievement.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferred, but not required.


Salary at AFPM is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience. The projected compensation range for this position is $130,000.00 to $160,000.00 (annualized). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of AFPM’s total compensation package for employees.
