Job Summary

The EHS Manager’s overall mission is to promote and lead a strong safety culture and healthy work environment while driving strategic safety initiatives with the goal of zero accidents and injuries. The EHS Manager will report directly to the American Flooring Plant Manager. As the subject matter expert and site leader for environmental, health, and safety, this role is integral in ensuring a safe workplace for all employees. The EHS Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving safety programs; ensuring compliance with corporate, local, state, and federal regulations; and establishing policies, procedures and training protocol that align with organizational goals. This position provides leadership, direction, and accountability across all levels of the organization by partnering with site leadership to drive performance, reduce risk, and achieve company safety targets. This role requires a strong presence across manufacturing, warehouse, and office environments, with a focus on leading audits, analyzing trends, overseeing incident investigations, and ensuring sustainable corrective actions. The EHS Manager collaborates with leadership to ensure safety performance is achieved and maintained while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead and manage all EHS programs, policies, and procedures across the facility
  • Provide guidance and direction to supervisors, leads, and employees on safety practices
  • Promote a strong safety culture through proactive engagement and accountability
  • Develop and track EHS goals, KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Interacts with the site workforce at all levels to demonstrate, educate and enforce safe work practices
  • Responsible for completing and delivering on safety projects as agreed with management

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Conduct regular audits, inspections, and risk assessments
  • Prepares required reports, plans, and other government SHE&S filings and ensures timely and accurate submission.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and implement necessary updates
  • Incident Management
  • Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Ensure corrective and preventive actions are implemented and tracked
  • Analyze trends to reduce workplace injuries and environmental risks

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver EHS training programs for all employees
  • Ensure onboarding safety training is completed for new hires
  • Responsible for identifying training and development opportunities for operators and supervisors on safety protocols, processes, and best practices
  • Active with employees on the manufacturing floor on a daily basis to understand potential risks, hazards, and ergonomic challenges to drive continuous improvement and corrective actions.
  • Evaluate jobs (JSA’s) for possible ergonomic and other safety and engineering improvements and implement these work design changes with appropriate team members.

Environmental Management

  • Manage waste disposal, recycling, and environmental compliance programs
  • Coordinate with external vendors and agencies as needed
  • Monitor environmental impact and implement sustainability initiatives

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety standards, OSHA 30-hour General Industry Certification Required
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis

  • Physical Requirements 
  • Ability to remain in a variety of positions, including sitting, standing, squatting, and walking, for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Capability to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. as required by the role.
  • Ability to consistently wear and properly utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) throughout the duration of the shift, including but not limited to steel-toed shoes, hearing protection, and protective eyewear, to ensure safety and compliance with health regulations.
