Position Summary
American Floor Covering is seeking a detail-oriented NC Programmer to join our fabrication team in East Hartford, CT. In this role, you will program CNC waterjet saws and routers to fabricate custom and production stone surfaces using our proprietary SEKON software. The ideal candidate is precise, resourceful, and motivated to maximize material yield while working closely with our shop fabricators to keep production moving smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Program CNC waterjet saws and routers using proprietary SEKON software to fabricate stone surfaces and components.
- Generate cutting programs primarily for 3-axis machining.
- Plan slab layouts to maximize yield, accounting for natural defects, veining, and pattern matching in stone slabs.
- Fabricate parts from a variety of materials including natural stone (granite and marble), Quartz, Quartzite, Porcelain, and Dekton.
- Manage a fluctuating workload that includes one-off custom jobs as well as production runs of repeat pieces.
- Provide shop support and communicate directly with fabrication employees to troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy and precision in all programs and outputs, working comfortably in both imperial and metric units.
- Contribute to a small-shop environment where machine time is limited and efficient programming is essential.
Required Qualifications
- 2–5 years of NC/CNC programming experience (stone industry experience is not required).
- Strong working knowledge of both the imperial and metric measurement systems.
- Highly detail-oriented with excellent spatial reasoning and the ability to visualize finished parts from drawings.
- Comfortable working with CNC waterjet saws and CNC routers.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills — able to work side-by-side with shop fabricators to solve problems on the floor.
- Ability to manage shifting priorities and varying production volumes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with natural stone, engineered stone, porcelain, or Dekton.
- Familiarity with slab yield optimization and managing defects/veining in natural materials.
- Graduates of technical high schools or community college technical programs are strongly encouraged to apply.
What You Don't Need
- A four-year degree — no degree is required for this position.
- G-Code knowledge is not required; programming is handled through our SEKON software.
- Prior experience in the stone industry — we will train the right candidate on materials and applications.
Work Environment
This is an on-site position at our fabrication shop in East Hartford, CT. The shop is small with a limited number of machines, which means efficient programming directly impacts production output. You'll work closely with a tight-knit team of fabricators in a hands-on environment that values precision, problem-solving, and craftsmanship.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $60,000–$80,000, commensurate with experience.
- Potential for discretionary bonuses.
- Consistent daytime schedule with shift options of 8:00 AM–4:00 PM or 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.
