Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs would be responsible for assisting the SVP, Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs on federal and state policy and regulatory issues on behalf of the AFC and our members on issues including, but not limited to Innovative Banking, Embedded Finance, Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL), Fintech Lending, Earned Wage Access (EWA), Payments, Data Privacy, Open Banking and AI.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Develop, research, implement, and advocate for AFC’s policies, playing a crucial role in shaping and influencing policies in fintech and innovative banking.
- Draft AFC responses to relevant federal and state requests for comment, pre-rulemaking, and rulemaking activities at the direction of the SVP, Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs.
- Assist the SVP, Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs to respond to member inquiries about federal and state policy issues and update appropriate working groups.
- Assist the SVP, Head of Policy and Regulatory Affairs in engagements with federal and state regulators, including but not limited to, drafting issue briefs, background documents, and summaries of relevant issue research.
- Collaborate with the Director of Federal Government Affairs and the Director of State Government Affairs to monitor, research, analyze and respond to proposed legislation, rules and regulations affecting fintech industry at the federal and state levels.
- Assist the Government Affairs and Policy Team with the development of materials and collateral necessary for affective education and advocacy of AFC’s federal and state legislative and regulatory positions.
- Collect, analyze, and summarize data and reports related to member issue areas.
- Building relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies, association members, and other relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications and education requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Graduate degree is a plus.
- Thorough subject matter expertise regarding the prudential and consumer financial product regulatory frameworks.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to understand and articulate complex issues in an understandable, but comprehensive manner and to discuss such issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience with a federal or state banking or financial services regulator, think-tank or non-profit advocacy firm focused on financial services issues, or relevant other government agencies (e.g. GAO, CRS, CBO, OIRA, OMB).
- Ability to work non-traditional hours and willing to travel with the United States
- Experience working in the fintech industry is a plus
- Salary Range: $79,000 - $130,000
