Position Overview
American Fiber Cement is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Technical Assistant to support its Estimation and Engineering Department. This role involves assisting with project estimations, technical documentation, shop drawings, data analysis, and coordination with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical aptitude, precision, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist in preparing project cost estimates, material take-offs, quantity calculations, and bids.
· Review architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and addenda for accuracy and completeness.
· Support our engineering partners with shop drawings, cut lists, and work packages for fabrication a
· Compile and maintain technical documentation, product specifications, and submittals.
· Provide technical data to sales, operations, and project management teams as required.
· Maintain and organize digital databases of drawings, estimates, revisions, and correspondence.
· Assist with architects, general contractors, installers, and suppliers to resolve technical queries.
· Prepare project scheduling inputs related to estimation and engineering deliverables.
· Conduct quality checks on take-off sheets, bid forms, drawings, and engineered designs.
· Support the implementation of process improvements, cost optimization strategies, and engineering best practices.
Technical Requirements
· Basic understanding of construction drawings, architectural details, and structural engineering concepts.
· Knowledge of estimation software such as Bluebeam, Planswift, or similar digital take-off tools.
· Intermediate-to-advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
· Basic Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, or other CAD drafting software.
· Ability to interpret specifications, contracts, and engineering documents.
· Experience in understanding shop drawings, fabrication details, and material lists.
· Ability to learn and understand building materials, fiber cement products, façade systems, and cladding assemblies.
· Ability to learn and understand construction codes (IBC, ASTM), fire ratings, and building envelope performance requirements.
· Skilled in document control and version tracking across multi-project workflows.
· Familiarity with project management software such as Airtable, Monday,

· Strong technical writing skills for preparing submittals, transmittals, and RFIs.
Qualifications
· Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (preferred).
· Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in construction estimation, drafting, or an engineering support role.
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to work precisely and efficiently.
· Excellent communication skills for technical coordination with internal teams and external stakeholders.
· Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt in a dynamic project-driven environment.
