Mid-America is part of American Elevator Group (AEG), the largest independent elevator service company in North America, consisting of a collection of well-established elevator service companies operating throughout the United States. We are looking for a General Manager to work out of the Greater Indianapolis, Indiana area.
The General Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and driving the success of the business unit's operations. This position requires a combination of strategic vision, operational expertise, and strong leadership skills to lead a team dedicated to upgrading and enhancing existing elevator systems to meet contemporary safety, efficiency, and technology standards. A successful candidate will be a positive, self-confident, decisive leader that will influence across the organization.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business unit strategy aligned with the company's business goals and objectives.
- Identify market trends, customer needs, and technological advancements to drive innovation to the business operations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their needs and expectations for all key projects.
- Instrumental in aggressively growing the profitability of the operation and fostering a team environment.
- Team Management:
- Direct responsibility for service/modernization business, including sales, field operations, customer satisfaction and overall general business management.
- Lead and manage a cross-functional team (directly and indirectly), which includes talent management, recruitment, succession planning and employee relations.
- Evaluate critical resources and determine labor needs to make recommendations for the business unit.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities to enhance team members' skills and capabilities, with a specific focus on front-line leadership.
- Technology and Innovation:
- Maintain knowledge of industry advancements, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to elevators and vertical transportation.
- Direct accountability for monitoring, managing, and measuring all site processes, and meeting or exceeding business objectives.
- Drive the adoption of innovative technologies and solutions in the operations to enhance safety, energy efficiency, and user experience.
- Financial Management:
- Oversee the P&L, operations, sales, field operations, customer satisfaction and general business management.
- Develop and manage budgets for the business unit, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Monitor financial performance, analyze key performance indicators, and implement strategies to optimize profitability.
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Accountable for the outgoing quality, safety and efficacy of all services, compliance with all applicable specifications, standard operating procedures, and applicable regulatory bodies.
- Ensure all business operations adhere to relevant safety codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with regulatory bodies and ensure the company maintains full compliance.
- Remain up to date on key regulatory/compliance changes.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Provide regular updates and reports to the executive team and stakeholders on the progress of the business unit, including financial performance and key milestones.
- Coordinates with other support departments such as Human Resources, Finance, and IT to ensure successful production operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Environment & Hazards:
- Most of this job operates in a general office environment.
- Frequent travel to clients or potential clients in various locations.
Special Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up-to twenty-five pounds at times.
- Frequent travel to meet with clients or potential clients will be required.
Work Contact Group:
- Significant contact with AEG Corporate offices and senior management.
- Significant contact with new and existing customers
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Management, or a related discipline). Master’s of Business Administration degree strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of direct experience required, including 7 years in a senior management capacity within the elevator or similar industry required.
- Proven track record of driving growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
- In-depth knowledge of elevator systems, service and modernization processes, and relevant technologies.
- Strong understanding of industry safety regulations, codes, and standards.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinker who can drive innovation and adapt to changing market dynamics.
- Financial acumen and experience managing budgets and financial performance.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressure.
