CDL A Regional Container Driver - Take Your Truck Home

It is Saturday afternoon. You drop your last container, head home to Springfield and park your truck where you can see it. Sunday and Monday are yours. Tuesday you pick the start time that suits you and roll out again. That is a regional intermodal week on this account, and drivers average $1,500 for it.

How The Week Goes

• Tuesday: start at the time you chose, heading to the Kansas City or St. Louis rail yards
• On the Road: move containers to and from customers within 300 miles across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, Nebraska and Illinois
• At the Customer: 75% drop and hook, and the other 25% is loaded or unloaded by the customer, so your hands stay off the freight
• Nights: in a 100% automatic sleeper with a 1500 watt inverter
• Saturday: back home with your truck
• Sunday and Monday: off
  
  
  

What It Pays

• $1,500 weekly average, about $78,000 a year
• $10,000 sign-on bonus, first payment after your first dispatch (eligibility terms apply)
• $0.56 per mile to start, rising 1 cent a year to $0.61, on about 2,000 miles a week
• $25 per drop and hook and $40 per live load or unload
• $15 per extra stop, crosstown or shuttle move
• $30 per hazmat load
• $20 per hour detention after 1.5 hours live, 1 hour drop and hook
• $225 per day during 3 to 5 days of training in Kansas City
• Extra 6th days when freight is heavy

Requirements

• 21 or older with a valid Class A CDL
• Verifiable tractor-trailer experience: 3 months in the last 6 with one carrier, 6 months in the last 12, or 12 months in the last 5 years
• Hazmat within 90 days (we reimburse the cost)
• Somewhere safe to park the tractor on days off
• No careless or reckless driving and no more than 2 moving violations in 3 years
• No major preventable accidents in 3 years and no DUI/DWI in 5 years
• Must pass hair and urine drug testing, with no failed drug or alcohol test in the last 5 years
