American Crane & Equipment Corporation (ACECO) is seeking an experienced Director of Safety to lead the company’s Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) strategy across manufacturing, service, and field operations.
This leadership role oversees company-wide safety programs, regulatory compliance, risk mitigation initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts designed to protect employees, customers, and company assets. The Director of Safety serves as the organization’s primary safety authority and provides strategic guidance to executive leadership and operational teams.

What You’ll Do
Safety Leadership & Program Oversight
- Direct and oversee all company safety programs and initiatives
- Provide leadership and supervision to the Safety Manager
- Develop and implement strategic safety initiatives to reduce risk and improve safety performance
- Establish safety goals, performance metrics, and accountability measures
- Promote a proactive safety culture across all departments
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations including OSHA and EPA requirements
- Represent the company during OSHA inspections and regulatory communications
- Review safety policies and programs annually to ensure compliance and effectiveness
- Oversee OSHA compliance documentation and reporting
Safety Programs & Risk Management
Develop and maintain company safety programs including:
- Lockout/Tagout
- Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)
- Fall Protection and Working at Heights
- Crane and Rigging Safety
- Powered Industrial Trucks
- Aerial Lifts
- Hazard Communication
- Hearing Conservation
- Respiratory Protection
- PPE Programs
- Emergency Action Plans
- Fire Prevention Programs
- Fleet Safety
Additional responsibilities include:
- Evaluating workplace hazards across facilities and operations
- Developing loss control programs and risk mitigation strategies
Incident Investigation & Safety Analysis
- Oversee investigation of workplace incidents and near misses
- Analyze safety events to determine root causes
- Implement corrective and preventive actions
- Ensure accurate documentation and regulatory reporting
Safety Training & Employee Engagement
- Oversee safety training programs including new employee safety orientation
- Coordinate annual OSHA-required safety training programs
- Assess specialized safety training needs such as respirator use or hearing conservation
- Maintain training records and compliance documentation
Facility Inspections & Safety Monitoring
- Direct safety inspections across manufacturing, maintenance, and operational areas
- Monitor compliance related to fire protection systems, emergency lighting, cranes, ladders, forklifts, and other equipment
- Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to resolve safety concerns
Environmental Compliance
Oversee environmental reporting and regulatory submissions including:
- Tier II reporting
- VOC emissions reporting
- Recycling reporting
- Residual waste reporting
- Hazardous material manifests
Safety Committee Leadership
- Provide executive oversight of the company Safety Committee
- Support committee training and safety initiatives
- Maintain documentation required for Workers’ Compensation safety credits
Customer & Contractor Safety Coordination
- Review customer safety requirements and site safety programs
- Support service operations with safety planning for customer projects
- Evaluate contractor safety risks and ensure appropriate hazard communication
What We’re Looking For
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or related field required
Experience
- 8–10 years of progressive safety leadership experience
- 5 years managing safety programs in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Experience leading company-wide safety initiatives and compliance programs
Skills & Expertise
- Extensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, EPA requirements, and state safety regulations
- Experience overseeing environmental reporting and regulatory compliance
- Strong ability to influence safety culture across multiple departments
- Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills
- Strong ability to present safety programs and training to employees and leadership
Certifications
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) strongly preferred
REQUIREMENTS
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
- Ability to verify identity and employment authorization (Form I-9)
- Eligibility to access information or technology governed by U.S. export control laws (including 10 C.F.R. Part 810, EAR, and/or ITAR), where applicable
- Willingness to undergo a background check in accordance with applicable laws
- Willingness to undergo a pre-employment drug screen and participate in randomized drug testing during employment
- Ability to meet the posted work schedule and work required hours
- Ability to maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
- Willingness to follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to maintain professional conduct aligned with company values and expectations
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Hybrid environment consisting of office and manufacturing shop floor
- Regular presence in production areas to conduct safety inspections and training
- Exposure to industrial environments including noise, heavy equipment, and fabrication activities
- Required use of PPE when entering manufacturing or service areas
Physical expectations include:
- Ability to sit for extended administrative work
- Ability to walk shop floors regularly
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and elevated platforms during inspections
- Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 pounds when necessary
