Primary Purpose:

The Program Specialist is responsible for coordinating, executing, and improving simulation-based and educational programs. This role applies specialized knowledge to support faculty and learners, manage program logistics, and operate simulation activities. The position ensures high-quality program delivery, operational efficiency, and compliance with accreditation standards while advancing CHEST’s mission.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a passion for crushing lung disease and embody CHEST values: honor the team, lead with integrity, leverage passion, cultivate innovation, and have serious fun.

Program Coordination and Delivery

  • Coordinate and execute simulation-based educational programs, including live courses, webinars, and podcasts.
  • Support ISTC operations, including training sessions, meetings, maintenance, and tours.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned programs and activities.

Program Development and Faculty Support

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to design and deliver educational programs across live, virtual, hybrid, and on-demand formats.
  • Develop simulation scenarios and apply best practices in simulation education.
  • Manage faculty logistics, including invitations, agreements, conflict-of-interest tracking, travel coordination, and honoraria processing.

Content and Learning Management

  • Develop and prepare educational materials, including cases, presentations, evaluations, and digital learning assets.
  • Manage course content within the learning management system (LMS), including communications, assignments, and learner follow-up.

Simulation Operations and Technical Support

  • Prepare, operate, and maintain simulation equipment and environments.
  • Coordinate equipment needs, setup, and breakdown for training sessions and events.
  • Track inventory and manage supplies, including ordering and maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Assist with training of faculty and staff on simulation equipment and scenario programming.
  • Support recruitment and oversight of per-diem technical staff.

Compliance and Accreditation

  • Maintain accurate program records, including participation, evaluations, and equipment usage.
  • Support compliance with accreditation requirements (e.g., ACCME, SSH, ABIM).
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for simulation programs.

Financial and Administrative Support

  • Assist in monitoring program budgets and processing invoices and reimbursements.
  • Support reporting, research activities, and manuscript preparation as needed.

Facilities and Collaboration

  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and functional simulation environment at CHEST and off-site locations.
  • Collaborate across teams and maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide responsive, learner-centered support to members, faculty, and committees.
  • Maintain working knowledge of systems (e.g., AMS, LMS).
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and adopt new technologies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and general computer applications.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment and materials as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed, to support volunteer and learner schedules.
  • Ability to travel occasionally (domestic and international).
  • Ability to adhere to CHEST's hybrid work schedule, which includes 2 days per week work-from-home, and 3 days per week onsite at CHEST headquarters in Glenview. Tuesday and Wednesday are CHEST's anchor days, and a 3rd onsite day will be decided between employee and supervisor.

Additional Information

The annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000 to USD $75,000. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
