The Floor Manager serves as the operational link between the Production Supervisors and the Production Director. This position is responsible for ensuring the production floor operates efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company policies and production goals. Acting as the Production Director's primary on-floor representative, the Floor Manager monitors workflow, removes obstacles, coordinates between departments, and provides administrative and operational support to keep production running smoothly.
Production Operations
- Monitor daily production activities to ensure work is progressing according to schedule and production targets.
- Coordinate workflow between teams to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Identify and proactively resolve production bottlenecks and operational issues.
- Assist with daily production planning and scheduling based on labor, inventory, and customer priorities.
- Ensure resources, materials, and staffing are aligned to meet production demands.
- Make operational decisions on behalf of the Production Director when appropriate.
Leadership & Oversight
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the Production Director and Production Supervisors.
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor throughout the workday.
- Ensure supervisors consistently enforce company policies, procedures, and performance expectations.
- Hold employees accountable for attendance, productivity, quality, safety, and conduct.
- Address issues promptly and escalate significant concerns to the Production Director as needed.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the department.
Administrative Support
- Provide administrative support to the Production Director, including maintaining production records, reports, and daily operational updates.
- Track production metrics and identify trends affecting productivity or efficiency.
- Help coordinate meetings, follow-up on action items, and ensure initiatives are completed.
Inventory & Production Planning
- Develop a thorough understanding of inventory, stock availability, and production requirements.
- Work closely with the Warehouse Manager to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Monitor inventory shortages and communicate potential risks before they impact production.
- Coordinate material movement between departments to maintain uninterrupted workflow.
Cross Department Communication
- Communicate regularly with the Warehouse Manager, Purchasing, Quality, and other departments to ensure production needs are met.
- Facilitate timely communication regarding schedule changes, material shortages, equipment issues, and customer priorities.
- Ensure all departments remain aligned to prevent delays or production interruptions.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of manufacturing or production leadership experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of production operations and workflow management.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.
- Ability to build strong working relationships across departments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to spend the majority of the workday walking and standing on the production floor up to 14 hours. Most days are 10 hour minimum.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, machinery, and noise.
