Overview:
The Directional Drill Operator Locator is responsible for assisting the Drill Operator in locating the drill head and drilling in accordance with blueprints.
Details:
As a Directional Drill Locator, you will interpret the signals sent from underground transmitters about location, angle, temperature, and other factors for the drill operator, who operates the drill.
- Set up and calibrate directional drilling equipment, including locating devices, guidance systems, and survey tools.
- Perform pre-drilling surveys to determine the appropriate drilling path and identify potential obstacles or hazards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to plan and execute directional drilling projects.
- Implement measures to minimize environmental impact during drilling.
- Identify and address any challenges or obstacles encountered during drilling.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of drilling equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols during drilling operations to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during drilling operations.
- Maintain accurate records of drilling activities, equipment usage, and project progress.
- Collaborate with the installation team to assist with fiber optic cable pulling, splicing, and testing as needed.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Directional Drill Locator in the telecommunications or utility industry.
- In-depth knowledge of directional drilling techniques, equipment, and familiarity with survey tools, guidance systems, and tracking.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations related to drilling activities.
- Ability to safely and effectively operate various types of construction equipment and tools.
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and procedures related to driving and construction work.
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor tasks in various weather conditions and environments.
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs.
- Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- A valid CDL License with a satisfactory driving record is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $22.50 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
