What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Graphic Designer position at American Bicycle Group?
About The American Bicycle Group
The American Bicycle Group is the parent company of three iconic cycling brands; Quintana Roo, OBED Bikes, and Litespeed. Built by riders, for riders, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. From IRONMAN course records to gravel expeditions in the backcountry, our bikes and our people live on two wheels. We're building a creative team capable of producing world-class visual work across digital, product, and promotional channels, and we need a designer who can lead from the front while never losing touch with the work.
The Role
This is a hands-on production and creative leadership role. You will own the day-to-day visual output of the ABG brand portfolio while driving the visual strategy that defines how our brands look, feel, and move across every customer touchpoint. You will be equally at home building a repeatable system for seasonal promotional campaigns and slowing down to craft brand defining visual experiences.
You will be the creative talent whose work makes cyclists stop scrolling.
What You'll Own
Visual Direction & Brand Systems
- Evolve the visual identities for QR, OBED, and Litespeed, building brand systems with clear rules for typography, color, photography art direction, graphic language, and decal design
- Develop and maintain design system documentation that enables consistent, scalable execution across all channels
- Translate brand positioning and product strategy into visual frameworks that resonate with target segments across brands
- Elevate the visual presentation of products, from web hero shots to decal graphics, to match the quality and performance of the bikes themselves
Production Design
- Execute high-volume promotional and campaign work across digital (web, email, social, paid media) channels quickly, accurately, and on-brand
- Evolve and use repeatable production templates and asset systems that increase team efficiency without sacrificing quality
- Design decals, frame graphics, and colorway presentations with a working understanding of production constraints like shrink application, vinyl plotting, anodizing, and paint-ready artwork
- Collaborate directly with production teams and manufacturing partners to ensure graphic directions are executable within cost parameters
Digital & E-Commerce
- Create visual assets for web product pages, category pages, and campaign landing pages that drive conversion
- Design promotional assets across digital mediamedi types that create urgency and desire, not just information
- Collaborate on art direction for product and lifestyle photography to build the visual library each brand requires to compete at the top of the market
Strategic Growth Initiatives
- Lead visual design for major launches, sub-brand development (e.g., Studio Next for QR), and cross-brand campaigns
- Concept and deliver campaign identity systems from brief through production-ready assets
- Bring fresh creative thinking to athlete partnerships, event presence, and sponsorship design
What You Bring
Required
- 5 years of professional graphic design experience with a portfolio demonstrating both high-volume production design and concept-to-execution brand or campaign work
- Expert-level Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop proficiency. This is non-negotiable; your file structure and production craft will be evaluated
- Strong command of the full Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects a plus)
- Demonstrated experience designing graphics for physical products; decals, colorways, frame graphics, packaging. Direct involvement in production handoff and manufacturing communication will be ongoing
- Strong promotional design background: you have moved product, driven campaign engagement, and understand what design elements create desire and conversion in a direct-to-consumer environment
- A command of both Millennial design sensibilities (premium minimalism, purposeful editorial photography, clean systems) and Gen Z visual language (authenticity, bold typographic energy, motion-first thinking, cultural fluency) and the maturity to know when and where to apply them
- Experience building and maintaining design systems and brand standards
- Understanding of print production, color management, and offset/digital print specifications
- Experience managing multiple projects at varying scales simultaneously
Strong Preference
- Active cyclist; road, gravel, tri, or mountain. We want someone who breathes this sport, talks to athletes as a peer, and brings lived experience to every brief
- Experience designing within the cycling, endurance sports, or outdoor gear industries
- Working knowledge of motion graphics and social-first video design
- Familiarity with Figma or similar tools for web and UI asset handoff
Who We’re Looking For
Our brands have strong DNA. Think racing pedigree, exploration ethos, American craft heritage; our websites and campaigns must reflect that quality. We need someone who recognizes design gaps immediately, has strong opinions about how to close them, and has the production skills and strategic instincts to do it without waiting for a larger team or a bigger budget.
What Success Looks Like
- Within 90 days: Campaign templates built, brand systems documented, and the first visual leap delivered on a product or promotional release
- Within 6 months: Measurable improvement in brand consistency across all digital touchpoints and clear visual differentiation between the three ABG brands
- Within 12 months: Visual identity elevation that earns recognition from the cycling media and community as a sign that something has changed at ABG
