What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Safety Research Analyst position at AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF NURSE ANESTHETISTS?
AANA is seeking to add a Patient Safety Research Analyst to our Practice Teams! In this role, you’ll help build a high-profile patient safety website and initiative from the ground up, working alongside passionate CRNA volunteers and subject matter experts.

This position is considered Hybrid with an expectation to be in the Rosemont, IL office 1-3 times a month for All Staff Meetings, trainings, and department meetings. The compensation for this role will be based on experience within the given range on the job posting.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the planning and implementation of initiatives focused on patient safety and nurse anesthesiology clinical practice.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews, evaluate scientific evidence, critique research methodologies, and extract key findings to support topic-specific evaluations and AANA’s evidence-based initiatives.
- Research and draft content on topics related to nurse anesthesiology clinical practice and patient safety for internal use, member resources, and external publications.
- Support the development of tailored resources for specific member segments and stakeholders.
- Assist in identifying new opportunities to create practice-related resources and contribute to initiatives that may support non-dues revenue generation.
- Collaborate with the Professional Development team to inform the creation of educational modules, webinars, and presentations that align with current evidence and meet member needs.
- Research and propose strategies for developing patient-facing materials and resources, ensuring content is accessible, evidence-informed, and distributed through appropriate channels.
Committee Facilitation
- Collaborate with and support the work of the Patient Safety Advisory Panel practice committee, and related groups (e.g., committees, advisory panels, task forces, or subject matter experts), including agenda development, meeting facilitation, and ongoing communication with volunteer members.
Member Support
- Supports member inquiry monitoring, logging, and routing process within HubSpot.
- Serves member and non-member inquiry response support related to expertise.
- Assesses inquiry trends for recommendations of new resources, projects, or programs.
Communications:
- Develop and coordinate verbal and written communications for projects. Write and contribute to articles, news updates, and other content for AANA publications, the website, social media, and external platforms, tailoring messages to engage diverse audiences.
- Contribute to the patient safety content or activities at AANA or external meetings.
- Coordinate communication efforts with marketing, PR, and other relevant divisions.
External Relationships:
- Monitor external organizations and analyze trends affecting patient safety and nurse anesthesiology practice, providing actionable insights to inform AANA’s strategies and resources.
- Participate in external activities and meetings, as necessary, facilitate nominations, and support AANA liaisons to patient safety related external organizations.
Other duties as assigned
- In collaboration with other division staff, support division activities such as elements of the wellness program, which may include participation in wellness exhibiting efforts and volunteer support.
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- 2-3 years of related work experience required.
- Previous experience within healthcare, policy or research fields preferred.
- Experience with coordinating and facilitating the work of volunteer committees, task forces, and work teams preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate with all levels of the association and externally.
- Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, including the ability to efficiently plan, organize, and manage projects preferred.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Adaptability with a changing work environment.
- Effectively prioritize multiple ongoing projects.
- Versatile self-starter with initiative, reliability, and resourcefulness; able to offer constructive ideas and apply practical expertise to contribute to the overall goals of the association.
- Superior customer services skills; ability to cultivate and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, volunteers, vendors, and organizations.
- Ability to think innovatively and strategically. Strong attention to detail.
- Bachelor’s degree with experience as a clinical research associate, clinical research nurse, or quality improvement or quality assurance specialist.
- Master’s degree required in health-related field and/or epidemiology with experience in clinical or health service research and expertise in evaluating study design and research methods.
