Role Summary
The Tri-Axle Mechanic is critical to maintaining the operational readiness and safety of the heavy haulage fleet. This role is responsible for the diagnostic troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and comprehensive repair of tri-axle dump trucks and related heavy surface mining equipment. The mechanic ensures all vehicles operate at peak efficiency and strictly comply with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on a fleet of heavy-duty tri-axle dump trucks, including oil changes, lubrication, and inspection of critical components.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic system failures to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet availability.
- Execute complex repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, steering systems, and heavy-duty air brake systems.
- Conduct thorough pre-shift and post-shift fleet inspections to identify wear, damage, or safety hazards prior to operational deployment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and compliance documentation for all repairs.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are executed in strict accordance with lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, MSHA surface safety regulations, and internal environmental standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Extensive proven experience as a diesel mechanic, with a specific focus on heavy-duty tri-axle trucks and commercial haulage vehicles.
- Strong proficiency in utilizing diagnostic software, hand tools, and specialized heavy equipment repair machinery.
- Comprehensive understanding of heavy-duty air brakes, hydraulic systems, and diesel engine diagnostics.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is strongly preferred.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop environment.
- Schedule Availability: Must be able to support a continuous 24/7 staggered shift rotation, consisting of four days on and two days off, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
