About the Role American Anthracite is looking for a safety-focused and dependable Haul Truck Operator to join our surface mining operations. In this role, you will be responsible for safely maneuvering large, off-road articulated or rigid-frame haul trucks to transport run-of-mine (ROM) anthracite, overburden, and refuse across the mine site and processing plant areas.
We are looking for an operator who understands the importance of haul road safety, communicates well with loading equipment operators, and respects the sheer size and power of the machinery.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently drive heavily loaded off-road haul trucks between excavation areas, stockpiles, processing plant feed hoppers, and refuse sites.
- Loading & Dumping: Work closely and communicate effectively with excavator and front-end loader operators to ensure safe, balanced loading. Safely back into dump areas and hoppers, ensuring proper clearance before discharging material.
- Haul Road Safety: Navigate changing pit conditions, inclines, and weather-affected haul roads while strictly adhering to site speed limits and traffic patterns.
- Inspections & Maintenance: Perform comprehensive pre-shift and post-shift walk-around inspections. Check fluid levels, tires, and brakes, and immediately report any mechanical defects to the maintenance team.
- Site Safety: Strictly follow all MSHA regulations and internal safety policies. Maintain constant and clear two-way radio communication with other equipment operators and ground personnel.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 1 years of experience operating large off-road haul trucks (e.g., CAT, Volvo, Komatsu) in a surface mine, quarry, or heavy civil construction environment.
- Safety First: A strong personal commitment to safety. Current MSHA Part 46 or Part 48 Surface Miner training is highly preferred.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit for extended periods, endure the vibration and jarring of heavy equipment operation, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions (dust, rain, cold, heat).
- Communication: Excellent two-way radio communication skills and a team-player attitude.
- Reliability: A strong work ethic and excellent attendance record. Must be willing to work required shifts, including potential overtime or weekends depending on operational needs.
