- This job is a member of the Corporate Accounting team within Finance.
- Responsible for leading the day-to-day functions for the corporate accounting / financial reporting processes of the company.
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual supporting schedules for responsible accounting functions; Review journal vouchers, monthly support schedules and general ledger account reconciliations
- Produce materials that are presented to the Company’s Audit Committee
- Communicate with the VP Controller, Financial Planning, Finance Controller Organization, Treasury, Legal, Investor Relations as well as the Company’s external counsel, Latham & Watkins, and external auditor, KPMG
- Lead the preparation and filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules for all companies as required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Department of Transportation (DOT), Airline Reporting Corporation, Bureau of Economic Commerce, and other agencies. Lead the preparation of the annual benefit plan financial statements.
- Research, document and implement conclusions regarding technical accounting treatment for non-routine transactions and new accounting pronouncements
- Coordinate activities to ensure internal/external auditors requests are completed
- Ensure integrity of relevant financial system modules and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Ensure that accounting functions are Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) compliant
- Provide guidance on accounting issues to business groups of the company as needed
- Provide new employees with appropriate training on business processes and system applications for assigned areas of responsibility
- Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of business processes, procedures and accounting assumptions on an ongoing basis. Recommend and assist in process improvements to improve the control environment and increase the utilization of resources (people, technology, funds)
- Develop and maintain documentation for business and system processes for assigned responsibilities
- Represent the department in meetings and through written and verbal communication with internal and external customers
- Serve as a backup for Director as a resource for accountants to ask questions and to sign off on journal entries and reconciliations
- Perform a variety of other functions/ad-hoc projects as assigned to aid in the department’s/company’s achievement of goals and business objectives
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent experience/training
- 7 years of professional accounting experience
- 2 years in manager leadership position
- Professional certification (CPA)

- Leadership abilities including experience managing teams
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Ability to work on projects and prioritize and execute concurrent assignments
- Ability to think innovatively with a high degree of motivation and problem solving skills required
- Knowledge of technical application of GAAP and SOX principles
- Knowledge of financial reporting processes
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills
- Flexible/adaptable to constant change and scheduling needs to meet deadlines
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software; good working knowledge of mainframe accounting/reporting systems including SAP general ledger and Hyperion Financial Management reporting tool
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
