We are seeking passionate and dedicated educators to support the Summer Discovery Program, a five-week academic and enrichment experience designed for rising 9th and 10th grade students at ACC’s 7 Mile Campus in Detroit. Program to begin June 16, 2026. Pay rate is $65 per hour, Monday through Friday 8am - 4pm for 6 weeks.
This program is designed to support students during a critical transition into high school by strengthening academic skills, building confidence, and fostering personal growth. The Summer Discovery Program Instructor will deliver engaging instruction in English Language Arts and/or Math, while helping facilitate enrichment, wellness, and community-building activities. The ideal candidate is committed to working with underserved youth, skilled at creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment, and passionate about helping students succeed academically and personally.
- Deliver engaging English Language Arts and/or Math instruction for rising 9th and 10th grade students.
- This position requires daily in-person engagement with students and collaboration with program staff to create a safe, structured, and inspiring summer learning experience.
- Support students in strengthening foundational academic skills and preparing for grade-level expectations in high school.
- Utilize interactive lessons, small-group instruction, and project-based learning to promote critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving.
- Foster a positive, supportive classroom environment that encourages student confidence and participation.
- Participate in enrichment programming including arts, physical activity, social-emotional learning, and team-building activities.
- Build strong, respectful relationships with students while serving as a mentor and positive role model.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Mathematics, Youth Development, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
- Certified teacher in the State of Michigan
- Previous teaching, tutoring, or youth development experience required.
- Middle school or High school experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience working with underserved, diverse, or urban youth populations.
- Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills.
- Ability to create interactive, culturally responsive learning experiences – commit to entire 6-week program.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and mentoring abilities.
- Commitment to ACC’s mission of serving and empowering underserved communities.
