America’s Car-Mart is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Internal Controls to lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of our internal control framework across our vertically integrated used car retail and financing operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring SOX compliance, mitigating operational and financial risks, and enabling scalable growth through strong governance.
What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership: Develop and maintain a comprehensive internal control framework aligned with COSO and SOX 404 requirements. Lead annual risk assessments and stay ahead of regulatory developments.

Business Partnership: Collaborate with Finance, IT, Legal, and Operations to embed effective controls into processes and systems.

Performance & Reporting: Oversee control testing, remediation, and documentation. Prepare reporting for executive leadership and the Audit Committee.

Process & Systems Optimization: Design and implement controls across key business processes, including sales, collections, inventory, loan servicing, and financial reporting.

Team Leadership: Manage and develop a team of managers and associates, fostering a culture of accountability, partnership, and continuous improvement.
What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CIA preferred.

8 years of experience in internal controls, audit, or risk management, including public company SOX compliance.

Strong background in automotive retail or consumer finance industries highly preferred.

Deep understanding of operational risks in inventory management, collections, and credit underwriting.

Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders.

Exceptional communication, analytical, and project management skills.
