The Job:
The Digital Video Producer, working under the direction of the Executive Editor for audio and video and with other America content team leads, plays a central role in shaping and growing America’s audio and video presence across YouTube, podcasts and social media platforms. This role combines editorial acumen, technical production skills and digital platform fluency to deliver audio and video content optimized for audience engagement, retention and growth. The Digital Video Producer also assists with aspects of in-studio production at America’s headquarters in New York City, as well as periodic on-location productions and events.
The ideal candidate is proficient in video editing and motion graphics, and understands the evolving language of digital storytelling across YouTube, podcasts and social media platforms. This includes pacing and attention spans, thumbnail and headline effectiveness, clipping workflows, and platform-specific storytelling techniques. Additionally, this position requires editorial familiarity with Catholic news, spirituality and worldview, as well as an ability to deliver America’s style and tone across multiple platforms.
The main responsibilities of the job include, but are not limited to:
- Create, edit, and distribute short and long-form audio and video content, including audience-facing editorial videos, motion-graphic explainers, short documentaries and other productions as assigned by the Executive Editor.
- Collaborate with and support members of the audio and video team to produce America’s weekly podcast lineup and corresponding clips. Production tasks include pitching and concept development; research and booking guests; scripting and sourcing archival content; managing recording schedules, remote interviews and studio sessions; post-production editing; reviewing and publishing content.
- Develop and optimize compelling video and podcast headlines, thumbnails and packaging strategies for distribution via digital channels, including America’s website and social media platforms.
- Assist Studio Production Operator in all aspects of in-studio production; serve as a secondary resource for managing studio workflow and resources.
- Analyze audience and platform performance data to inform editorial, production and distribution decisions. This includes click-through rates, audience retention, watch time, subscriber growth and other engagement metrics.
- Actively follow podcast and video industry trends and best practices, as well as Catholic news.
- Assist Studio Production Operator in all aspects of office technology; serve as a secondary resource for America staff and events.
- Opportunities for cross-team collaboration, copy editing and writing for print or online platforms.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience producing audio and video content, including motion graphics, designed for digital and mobile-first audiences across YouTube, podcasts and other platforms.
- Fluency in industry-standard and emerging AV production tools including AI features: Zoom, Zencastr, Riverside, Descript, Adobe CC Audition/Premiere/After Effects, Final Cut Pro X, DaVinci Resolve, etc.
- Experience operating digital and cine-style cameras, and lighting basic scenes.
- Creative approach to story framing and structure, attentive to new patterns of audio and video consumption, especially on mobile devices.
- Demonstrated understanding of YouTube and social video best practices, including audience retention, packaging, storytelling, clipping strategy, and platform analytics.
- Experience with digital distribution for audio and video content. Knowledge of America’s website, app, and social media platforms is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to produce content from concept to completion in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong writing skills.
- Knowledge of and interest in the Catholic Church and Jesuit spirituality.
- Commitment to the aims, objectives and standards of America Magazine.
- Excellent computer, organizational, and communication skills.
- Languages are an asset.
