Position Overview

We are seeking experienced Substance Use Disorder Professionals (SUDP) to join the launch team for a new 23-Hour Evaluation & Treatment Center in Centralia, WA.

SUDPs will provide crisis-informed substance-use assessments, brief interventions, counseling, and early stabilization services for individuals experiencing acute behavioral-health or substance-related crises. This model mirrors a Psychiatric Emergency Services (Psych ER) environment, where patients may stay up to 23 hours and 59 minutes before discharge or transfer.

This fast-paced, high-acuity setting requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and confidence working with individuals in crisis—including those brought in by law enforcement.

You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support safe withdrawal, coordinate care needs, and ensure timely stabilization within the 23-hour treatment window.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive substance-use screenings, intake assessments, and individualized treatment or stabilization plans.
  • Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based substance-use and recovery-oriented modalities.
  • Deliver brief interventions, crisis counseling, and support for withdrawal symptoms or acute intoxication.
  • Facilitate psychoeducation groups, recovery planning, and harm-reduction education.
  • Collaborate with psychiatrists, RNs, MHPs, ARNPs/PAs, case managers, and peer support specialists.
  • Coordinate safe discharge planning, including referrals to detox, outpatient SUD programs, inpatient treatment, crisis resources, or community supports.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the EHR.
  • Participate in team huddles and clinical workflow development to support cohesive operations during the center’s opening.

Preferred Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Skilled in trauma-informed care, ensuring patient safety and emotional regulation.
  • Experience providing individual and group counseling in substance-use treatment settings.
  • Knowledge of motivational interviewing, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and recovery models.
  • Background in high-acuity behavioral-health settings such as Psych ER, crisis stabilization, or inpatient psychiatry.
  • Experience collaborating with law enforcement or managing police-transported patients is highly valuable.
  • Prior experience supporting the opening of new behavioral-health units or E&T centers is a plus.

Team & Work Environment Qualities

Clinicians Who Excel In This Environment Typically Demonstrate

  • Strong teamwork and communication
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude
  • Leadership qualities and comfort navigating evolving workflows
  • Adaptability and resilience
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly launching behavioral-health program
  • Professional grit and commitment to patient-centered care

Minimum Requirements

  • Active Washington State SUDP Certification (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, behavioral health, or related field
  • Experience conducting assessments and providing substance-use counseling
  • Understanding of behavioral-health guidelines, treatment planning, and clinical documentation
  • Current CPR (if applicable)
  • TB questionnaire, PPD, or chest X-ray per facility/state requirement
  • Current health certificate per contract/regulatory standards
  • Must meet all federal, state, and local employment/compliance requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Why This Opportunity?

  • Competitive local and travel compensation
  • Opportunity to help launch a brand-new Evaluation & Treatment Center
  • Work alongside the full interdisciplinary team in pre-opening orientation
  • Meaningful impact supporting individuals in crisis and helping shape a new program
  • Chance to contribute to workflow development and best practices in a high-acuity behavioral-health setting
