Health Records Technician (ON-SITE)
Location: Littlerock, WA 98556 - Correction Center
Contract: Full-Time | 13-Week Assignment (Possibility of Extension)
Pay Range: $30/hr per hour
Work Setting: ON-SITE ONLY
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Health Records Technician to join our team. This is an on-site role responsible for managing health information processes, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting the Health Records Department.
Key Responsibilities
Disclosure, Dissemination, and Procurement of Health Information
- Review and process records requests for medical, dental, and mental health care information within 15 working days or less.
- Handle Department staff requests for patient health information by the requested date.
- Process patient requests to review their health record within 15 working days or less.
- Make determinations to allow or deny requests in accordance with Washington State Uniform Health Care Information Act (RCW 70.02) and federal laws.
Health Record Management
- Ensure patient health records comply with departmental policies and state/federal statutes.
- Actively participate in the Health Record Management Committee.
Department Leadership
- Provide instruction and oversee clerical staff work.
- Communicate department performance updates to the Health Services Manager and Health Records Technician 2.
Auditing
- Conduct formal health record audits and complete required audit forms.
Technical Assistance
- Offer guidance to facility staff on health records and disclosure processes.
- Represent the agency in court regarding health records when necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Certification: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) through AHIMA.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in Health Information Management.
- Knowledge of state/federal laws and national standards governing health records.
- Experience in a correctional facility setting.
The Medical Records Technician (MRT) provides support to a facility by organizing, filing, scanning, and maintaining the medical records.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School degree or equivalent required
- Excellent organizational skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines
- Minimum of 6 months medical record and clerical experience preferred
- Current CPR if applicable
- TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
- Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
- Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
