Amelia County Fire & EMS is committed to delivering exceptional emergency services and fire protection to our community. We are seeking dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as a Firefighter/Paramedic
In this critical role, you will respond to emergency incidents, provide advanced life support (ALS) care, and support fire suppression and rescue operations. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact every day while working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls including fires, medical emergencies, motor vehicle accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and rescues
- Provide advanced life support (ALS), including medication administration, airway management, and cardiac care
- Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, and deliver appropriate medical treatment
- Operate emergency vehicles and equipment safely in compliance with all policies and laws
- Assist with fire suppression, rescue operations, and hazard mitigation
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, team members, and partner agencies
- Complete detailed incident and patient care reports
- Perform routine apparatus and equipment checks and assist with maintenance
- Support inventory management, supply ordering, and departmental programs
- Participate in quality assurance and training initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum age of 21
- Valid Virginia driver’s license (or ability to obtain) with acceptable driving record
- Virginia EMT-Basic certification
- CPR for Healthcare Providers
Required Certifications (or ability to obtain within 1 year if noted)
- Firefighter I (required at hire)
- Hazmat Awareness & Operations
- EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) Class III
- Basic Pump Operator (within 1 year)
- Rural Water Operations (within 1 year)
- NIMS 700 & 800; ICS 100 & 200
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of emergency medical care, ALS protocols, and first aid
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Physical strength and stamina to perform demanding tasks, including lifting and working in extreme conditions
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and with respiratory protection equipment
- Mechanical aptitude for operating and troubleshooting equipment
- Dependability, flexibility, and a positive attitude
Work Environment
- 24-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- May require mandatory overtime
- Physically demanding work in high-stress and hazardous environments
