The Athletic Trainer provides initial injury assessment, first aid care, short-term injury support, and referral coordination for students in a performing arts-focused environment. The position focuses on addressing concerns that can be managed through brief intervention and referring students to outside healthcare providers when additional evaluation or ongoing treatment is needed.

Serving as an initial point of care for students, the Athletic Trainer works collaboratively with faculty, Student Affairs, Production, and outside healthcare providers to support student wellness and safe participation in dance, performance, and academic activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide initial evaluation and management of musculoskeletal injuries and student wellness concerns for currently enrolled students. 
  • Provide short-term injury support, including taping, first aid, and basic injury-management guidance.
  • Identify conditions requiring additional evaluation or ongoing treatment and refer students to appropriate outside healthcare providers.
  • Determine temporary activity modifications and participation recommendations for injured students.
  • Communicate temporary movement modifications and participation recommendations to faculty and appropriate campus staff as needed.
  • Follow up with students regarding outside referrals and readiness to resume activity, as appropriate.
  • Provide injury prevention education and information about available campus and community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation and records related to student visits, injuries, recommendations, and referrals.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality regarding student health information.
  • Collaborate with outside healthcare providers, as appropriate, to support the coordination of student care.
  • Work collaboratively with AMDA Production staff to support student wellness and injury prevention for rehearsals, productions, and performances.
  • Support the Student Care Team in identifying and assisting students in need.
  • Participate in student orientation presentations and educational outreach related to injury prevention and available campus support resources.
  • Maintain regular communication with the supervisor and partnering departments regarding student concerns and operational needs.
  • Maintain treatment areas, equipment, and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE-accredited Athletic Training Education Program required. 
  • Current Board of Certification (BOC) credential required at the time of hire.
  • Minimum of three years of professional athletic training or sports medicine experience preferred.
  • Experience working with dancers, performing artists, or other highly movement-based populations strongly preferred.
  • Strong clinical skills in musculoskeletal injury evaluation, injury prevention, and referral decision-making.
  • Experience with movement assessment, corrective exercise, and performance-based rehabilitation preferred.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to communicate clinical recommendations clearly to students, faculty, and campus partners.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, student-centered environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple student concerns and priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Position Information:
  • Full-time, nonexempt position working 40 hours per week. 
  • The regular weekday schedule will be established based on student and departmental needs and may include occasional evening or weekend hours to support productions, performances, or campus activities.
  • Pay range: $37.00–$41.00 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Fully in-person position located in Los Angeles, California.
  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and reference check.
