Licensed Veterinary Technician
Amclare Veterinary Hospital is looking for a full-time or part time Licensed Veterinary Technician our busy one doctor small animal hospital.
Our belief is to provide our patients with lifelong excellent quality care, and support. We treat every pet as if they are our own. Our vet techs work closely with our doctors and assistants to provide compassionate and excellent care for our patients. We are all hardworking, respectful, empathetic individuals who also enjoy the family like atmosphere at our hospital. Must have the ability to work independently and with others. Must have current NYS Licensing for position. Experience preferred, but new graduates will be considered.
Currently our office hours are from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. Monday through Friday and 8 A.M. until noon on Saturday. We are flexible with hours and schedules. Full- time position is available for generally a 4-day week and rotating Saturdays from 8am until noon are required. Part-Time positions are also available for weekday morning and afternoon shifts and rotating Saturdays from 8am until noon are required.
The primary functions of this position include:
- Provides care to our patients in both a hospitalized and out-patient setting.
- Safely handle and restrain animals with compassion.
- Ability to draw blood samples and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
- Perform routine laboratory tests, including bloodwork, urinalysis, heartworm checks, and basic cytology examinations and to ensure that test results are accurately recorded in patient records
- Accurately monitoring vital signs: temperature, counts heart, pulse rate, respiratory rate and effort, capillary refill time, mucous membranes.
- Place peripheral intravenous catheters and administering fluids.
- Taking digital radiographs.
- Intubates patients and possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of treatments and procedures.
- Client communication includes pet care, patient histories, in-patient updates, diagnostic results and common medication and their proper administration.
- Maintains an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by the inventory control system.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the veterinary clinic and treatment areas
- Follow hospital, safety, and regulatory guidelines at all times.
- Other duties as assigned
Skills:
- A passion for working with animals.
- Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail for managing multiple tasks.
· Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
· The ability to tactfully interact with clients in varying emotional states and situations is a must.
· Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Work requires lifting, carrying and restraining animals (will be assisted by other staff members in lifting animals over 40 lbs. but should be able to lift 40lbs on own).
- Walk, bend, stretch, and stand or remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time in order to properly assist and/or perform tasks.
Education and Experience
- Associates or Bachelors in Veterinary Technology
- License/Certification: New York State Veterinary Technician License (Required)
- Veterinary experience: 1 Year (Preferred)
Compensation
· Starting at $20.00 – 24.00/hr. but compensation is based on years of experience, client service skills, and knowledge. Please attach a cover letter when submitting resume.

Salary : $20 - $24
