Overview
We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our multispecialty ASC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in surgical nursing, with experience in the outpatient setting. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The Charge Nurse will be responsible for the nursing care rendered in the ASC, and the implementation and administration of policies that ensure a safe environment for patients and employees. The Charge Nurse will report to the Director of Nursing and work in collaboration with team members to ensure efficient operations.
The ideal candidate has a strong circulating background, with the ability to provide patient care in all perioperative areas if needed. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 years supervisory experience. If the minimum supervisory experience is not met, we will train the right candidate for the role if they have adequate perioperative experience (with a strong circulating background).
Our ASC operates 2 ORs and 1 procedure room and does on average 20 cases per day. The specialties performed include:
- General (hernia repairs, mass excisions, laparoscopic cases, etc.)
- Ophthalmology
- Pain
- Orthopedics (TKAs, general, etc.)
- Gyn
- GI
- Urology
- Cardiology
- Podiatry
- Etc.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
- Current CA Nursing License
- Current ACLS, PALS, and BLS certification
- BSN/ADN, with a minimum of 2 years of perioperative experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience preferred
- ASC or OR experience preferred
Physical Requirements
- Willing to travel to mutual surgery centers
- Hepatitis immunization or documented declination
- TB test
- Able to maintain extensive standing, moderate sitting, retracting, and assisting in the transfer of patients with the appropriate number of personnel and/or devices
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the management, supervision, and support of pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative RNs, Surgical Techs, and ancillary personnel
- May participate in the evaluation of departmental programs and activities of staff
- Collaborates with administrative staff on special projects and other assignments
- Responsible for assisting the Director of Nursing in the development and training of the roles within the ASC
- Acts as a resource to the staff nurses for problem identification and problem resolution in regard to staff job functions in the ASC
- Ensures that existing policies and procedures are understood and implemented by surgery center staff
- Hold staff accountable for assigned responsibilities through performance evaluations and day-to-day operations
- May hold staff meetings, record meeting minutes, and act as a facilitator on behalf of the Director of Nursing
- Clinically competent in the specialties offered by the ASC
- Collaborates with the nurses to assess the number of staff required for the ASC and makes recommendations to the Director of Nursing
- Provides direct patient care to patients in all phases of surgical intervention as needed (Maintains competency in all perioperative areas)
- Assists in evaluation of new policies, procedures, instrumentation, equipment, and supplies
- Plans appropriate learning experiences for staff
Skills
Candidates should possess a combination of essential and desirable skills including:
- Experience in outpatient surgery center/Ambulatory Surgery Center
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, medication administration, and patient assessment
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, and individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to perform diagnostic evaluations and physical examinations effectively
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams
