Attorney – Criminal Defense & Firearms Law Charlotte, North Carolina (Remote / Travel Required)
A growing law firm based in Virginia and Pennsylvania is expanding its footprint into North Carolina and seeking a motivated and experienced North Carolina licensed attorney located in North Carolina ideally near the Charlotte area. (If you are not currently licensed in North Carolina you will not be considered for the role).
Our firm focuses on representing individuals involved in criminal cases and firearms-related legal matters, and we are looking for an attorney who is interested in building a practice in this area of law. Willingness to litigate some family law-related matters is also helpful. This role is perfect for someone who is a self-starter and is interested in the ability to self-manage to essentially start their own branch of the practice with both monetary, logistical, and administrative support from an established firm.
This position offers the opportunity to work primarily from home, while representing clients across North Carolina in litigation involving self-defense and related criminal matters. Travel to various parts of the state might be expected roughly 5-7 times a month, with the Firm picking up travel related expenses when necessary.
Compensation
· For qualified applicants a base salary of: $100,000
· Performance bonuses with the opportunity to earn up to $175,000 annually
· Opportunities for professional growth and advancement as the firm expands in North Carolina, with the opportunity to move into a managerial role depending on the success of the firm in the state.
Position Overview
The attorney will handle criminal defense (and possibly family law-related matters) in the greater Charlotte area and will be responsible for litigation involving self-defense cases throughout North Carolina. While the position is primarily remote, the attorney should expect to travel throughout North Carolina several times per month for court appearances, hearings, and client meetings.
This role also presents an opportunity to support the Firm’s growth in North Carolina, with corresponding professional advancement opportunities.
Responsibilities
· Accept and litigate a wide variety of criminal defense cases in the greater Charlotte area
· Represent clients in self-defense related criminal matters throughout North Carolina
· Be willing to participate in instructing classes on legal issues surrounding self-defense
· Manage cases from intake through resolution
· Appear in court for hearings, motions, and trials
· Work collaboratively with attorneys and staff across the firm
· Contribute to expanding the firm’s footprint and client base in North Carolina
Qualifications
· Licensed attorney in North Carolina
· 3 years of litigation or criminal defense experience preferred (willing to consider less experienced applicants at a slightly reduced salary)
· Very responsive with strong communication skills
· Strong courtroom advocacy and legal writing skills
· Ability to work independently in a remote environment
· Willingness to travel throughout North Carolina as needed
· Strong organizational and case management skills
· Self-starter
Preferred (but not required)
· Interest in firearms law, self-defense law, or constitutional law
· Familiarity with firearms and related legal issues
· Entrepreneurial or sales background
· Spanish speaking
· Family-law experience
