Position overview
The Tech III – Surgical Technologist supports surgeons and perioperative teams by preparing and maintaining the sterile field and providing skilled scrub assistance for a variety of surgical procedures. This mid-level role is ideal for certified or formally trained surgical technologists with 1–2 years of OR experience who are comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room by gathering, organizing, and arranging instruments, equipment, and supplies according to procedure and surgeon preference cards.
- Establish and maintain a sterile field, ensuring strict adherence to aseptic technique throughout the procedure.
- Scrub and assist during surgeries by passing instruments, sutures, and supplies, and by anticipating surgeon and RN needs.
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and intraoperative support under the direction of the RN and surgeon.
- Perform accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with the circulating nurse to maintain patient safety.
- Handle specimens, implants, and surgical devices according to facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Participate in room turnover, cleaning, and restocking to support efficient OR throughput.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, and other team members to support safe, efficient, patient-centered surgical care.
Required qualifications
- Surgical Technologist Certification or completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program.
- Minimum 1–2 years of recent surgical technologist experience in an acute care operating room.
- Demonstrated competence as a scrub technologist for a range of procedures (e.g., general, ortho, OB/GYN, or other service lines per facility need).
- Knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instrumentation, and OR safety practices.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary surgical team.
- Professionalism, reliability, and ability to function in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment that may require occasional heavy lifting and extended standing.
