Job Summary:
As an Inside Sales Engineer – Air Distribution at Johnson Barrow, Inc., you will play a crucial role in supporting our Outside Sales Engineers in delivering top-quality HVAC solutions to our valued customers. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of pre-sale and post-sale activities, including estimating, quoting, customer communication, equipment submittals, and on-site technical assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Air Distribution System Design: Collaborate with our sales team on the selection, design, and layout of commercial air distribution systems, including diffusers, grilles, registers, VAV boxes, fans, louvers, dampers, and related air-side components.
- Estimation and Quoting: Prepare accurate product selections and quotes for the outside sales team based on mechanical plans, specifications, and airflow requirements. Additionally, provide parts and replacement quotes for air distribution components such as diffusers, dampers, louvers, and duct accessories.
- Technical Assistance: Offer technical support for air distribution product selections, installations, and performance issues, including airflow balancing, noise concerns, and pressure drop calculations for both new and existing systems.
- Account Management: Partner with outside sales engineer to manage Engineer and Contractor accounts, ensuring exceptional service and support across contractors, engineers, and mechanical distributors within the air distribution market.
Qualifications:
- Degree: A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is preferred, with coursework or applied knowledge in HVAC systems or building mechanical systems considered a strong asset.
- Air Distribution Experience: Previous experience with commercial air distribution products—such as diffusers, grilles, registers, VAV systems, dampers, louvers, or ductwork accessories is highly advantageous. Familiarity with manufacturer selection software (e.g., Titus, Price, Krueger, or similar) is a plus.
- Technical Aptitude: Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications, with proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam or similar design and takeoff programs to support system layouts and air distribution schedules.
- Construction Knowledge: A solid understanding of commercial construction processes and contracting models, including Design/Build and Plan and Spec, with the ability to coordinate effectively with mechanical contractors, engineers of record, and sheet metal contractors.
Working Conditions:
• Office-based role with standard business hours, Monday–Friday.
• Occasional early morning, evening, or weekend work to support events or deadlines.
• Limited travel may be required for training or sales support.
Compensation
$60,000 - $70,000 base salary or depending on experience bonus/commission plan
This is a full-time, exempt position with competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications, plus eligibility for Johnson Barrow’s performance-based bonus program.
