Why This Role Matters
Finishing is where a cabinet stops being a box and becomes something a client is proud to live with. As a Cabinet Finisher / Stainer at Amberleaf Home, your work is the last thing a client sees and the first thing they notice.
We’re looking for a skilled finisher with 3 years of experience in wood finishing who takes pride in getting it right, works confidently with a range of techniques and materials, and holds themselves to a high standard without being told twice.
This is a hands-on, craft-forward role in a shop that values precision, accountability, and the kind of attention to detail that makes work last.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and apply finishes to custom cabinetry and millwork, including primer, paint, stain, oil, lacquers, sealers, and toners
- Execute spray and brush applications across a range of finish types: high gloss, metallic, glazed, and brushed
- Work with custom stains and advanced techniques including toning/shading, glazing, cerusing, wire brushing, bleaching, and high gloss polyester
- Prepare color matching samples with accuracy and consistency
- Perform touch-ups on various materials and finished surfaces
- Operate and maintain spraying and finishing room equipment properly and safely
- Collaborate with production and QC teams to ensure every piece meets Amberleaf’s standards before it leaves the shop
Qualifications
Required:
- 3 years of experience in wood finishing, preferably in a custom cabinetry or millwork environment
- Knowledge of various finishing techniques, products, and application methods
- Experience with brush, spray, and hand-applied finishes
- Experience in custom color mixing
- Knowledge of spraying and finishing room equipment
- Strong attention to detail and a high standard for your own work
- Ability to work on-site in Chicago, IL 60609
Preferred:
- Experience in specialty finishing techniques: liquid metal, crackle, burnt finish, cement finish
- Background in touch-up work across a variety of materials and finish types
- Familiarity with custom millwork or high-end residential cabinetry production
