FRONT OF HOUSE SUPPORT / COMMISDEPARTMENT: Front of HouseREPORTING INTO: Floor Manager/ General Manager PLACE OF WORK: Ambassadors Club House, 1245 Broadway, New York NY 10001(short walk from all train lines at Penn Station, Herald Square and PATH trains) JOB OVERVIEW: A Commis is a key behind-the-scenes support role for the restaurant who is responsible for ensuring that all glassware, silverware, china, bottled water, and service tools meet the highest standards of cleanliness and presentation. Preparation of beverages (e.g. espresso/coffee drinks, cold brews, specialty teas and lassis) during service to support dining room team is also essential. Working closely with dishwasher stewards, servers, and management, the Commis ensures each piece used during service is spotless and ready to impress. This role requires speed, care, and attention to detail, contributing directly to the guest’s dining experience and the restaurant’s reputation for excellence. A Commis must uphold the standards of excellence that define JKS, professional etiquette and compliance with all health and labor regulations. RATE OF PAY: $20/hour, FLSA eligible for overtimeKEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in opening and closing procedures to prepare the restaurant for service and maintain cleanliness and organization throughout.Prepare and serve espresso/coffee drinks, cold brews, specialty teas and lassis to fine dining standards.Calibrate grinders, maintain espresso machine cleanliness, and follow daily opening/closing protocols.Maintain consistency in beverage quality, texture, temperature, and presentation.Follow recipes precisely and accommodate guest preferences or dietary requests (e.g., non-dairy alternatives).Polish and inspect all stemware, glassware, silverware, china and service utensils to ensure no water spots, smudges, fingerprints, or imperfections.Use lint-free cloths in polishing stations to maintain cleanliness and presentation standards.Identify and remove any chipped, damaged or scratched items from circulation, following restaurant procedures.Maintain par levels of polished items in designated service stations and polish racks.Assist in restocking server stations and mise en place areas with properly polished items and bottled water.Organize and rotate inventory based on service flow and station usage.Work alongside dishwashing team to receive clean wares for polishing in addition to one’s own glassware washer in station.Adhere to all NYC Department of Health (DOH) standards for cleanliness and food safetyMaintain a clean and organized polish station at all times.Communicate with servers, managers and bar staff regarding immediate needs for glassware or silverware replenishment.Support special event setups or turnarounds requiring large volume polish and restock.Attend briefings, meetings, and training sessions to stay informed about menu offerings, service protocols, and industry best practices. Report any health & safety issues or faulty equipment to front of house management promptly for resolution.
