Sr. Systems Dev Engineer, Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper)

Amazon
Bellevue, WA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/13/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/12/2026

Description

Amazon Leo productivity team is seeking a motivated and autonomous builder to focus on owning and operating our Jama Connect Requirement Management Platform and TestRail test management platform. This is a hands-on position where your daily activities will range from strategic planning to new system development to supporting the customers that depend on our services. Deliver consistent, well-defined results in an agile systems development workflow. To succeed in this role, you will deliver reliable, highly available, scalable, controlled working environments built on AWS.

Export Control Requirements: Due to the need to access certain federal controlled information, you must be a U.S. citizen for consideration.

Key job responsibilities
- Own and operate the TestRail service environment end-to-end, including AWS infrastructure provisioning (EC2, CloudFormation, Load Balancers), application upgrades, patching, and configuration across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid deployment models.
- Define and own SLA/SLO metrics, build comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability systems, and lead incident response and root cause analysis (COE reviews) to minimize MTTD/MTTR and drive operational resilience.
- Lead the automation strategy using Infrastructure as Code (IaC), developing reusable tooling and frameworks that reduce manual operational toil and set engineering standards for the team and partner teams.
- Ensure compliance and security for the Jama Connect and TestRail services in AWS GovCloud (EAR, ITAR, CUI), designing and implementing service-level security controls including network segmentation, encryption, and access management.
- Lead capacity planning and forecasting to support Jama Connect and TestRail growth, peak usage, and long-term scalability, partnering with stakeholders to translate business needs into infrastructure solutions.
- Lead architecture and design reviews for the TestRail service and Jama Connect, guiding teams on trade-offs between opportunity, architecture, resources, and sustainability.
- Mentor and develop team members, setting engineering standards and best practices, and participating in cross-team technical reviews to raise the bar across the organization.
- Maintain service architecture documentation, including up-to-date architecture diagrams, topology maps, runbooks, and strategic roadmaps.

A day in the life
Your day starts with reviewing platform health dashboards and triaging overnight incidents for the TestRail service environment, Jama Connect Requirement Management Platform, among other team platforms. You might architect a solution for a complex cross-platform integration challenge alongside App Dev and Sys Dev engineers, then lead a vendor call to coordinate an upcoming TestRail upgrade in a controlled data environment. Between meetings, you're driving the team's automation strategy — refining Infrastructure as Code templates to streamline deployments, mentoring engineers on best practices, and leading a post-incident COE review to strengthen operational resilience. You collaborate with stakeholders and senior engineers to design infrastructure solutions and integrations in a secure manner, directly guiding the technical direction of the team. You wrap up by analyzing SLA/SLO dashboards, updating architecture documentation and runbooks, and participating in cross-team technical reviews to provide critical feedback — all in service of keeping Leo's mission-critical platforms reliable, secure, and performing at their best.
