Senior Optical Reliability Engineer, OISL Reliability

We are building the next generation of optical interconnect systems, and reliability is at the heart of what we do. We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Optical Reliability Engineer to join our OISL Reliability team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the long-term reliability and performance of optical systems, components, and subsystems — including optical amplifiers and laser-based technologies. You will work cross-functionally with design, systems, and test engineering teams to develop and execute reliability strategies that meet product quality and lifetime requirements. Key job responsibilities
• Develop, implement, and maintain reliability models and frameworks for optical and electrical components
• Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), fault tree analysis (FTA), and root cause analysis (RCA) for optical systems and subsystems
• Define and execute accelerated life testing (ALT) and highly accelerated life testing (HALT) programs for optical components
• Apply reliability growth models, Weibull analysis, and other statistical tools to predict and improve product lifetime
• Collaborate with system-level engineering teams to assess and improve overall system reliability and availability
• Establish reliability requirements and verification plans for new product development programs
• Develop and maintain reliability documentation including test plans, reports, and specifications
• Support qualification and validation activities for optical and electrical components and assemblies
• Communicate reliability findings and recommendations to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders

Export Control Requirement
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in component selection and understanding of component reliability
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with optics, opto-electronics and electronics
- Experience with reliability engineering principles, including reliability models, failure distributions, and statistical analysis
- Experience with system-level reliability concepts, including reliability block diagrams and system availability modeling
- Experience with reliability analysis tools and methodologies (e.g., Weibull , ReliaSoft, FMEA, FTA)
- Experience with data analysis and statistical software (e.g., Python, MATLAB, JMP, or equivalent)

Preferred Qualifications

- Master’s or PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Experience with electrical design and optical communication systems
- Familiarity with industry reliability standards (e.g., Telcordia GR-468, MIL-HDBK-217, IEC 61709, SMS, MIL-STD-785)
- Prior experience in a hardware reliability or component engineering role within the optical communications or aerospace industry
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
