Senior Manager, Operations

Amazon
Indianapolis, IN Full Time
POSTED ON 9/2/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/2/2026

Description

Are you a resilient, results-driven leader who thrives in fast-paced environments? Do you find energy in building high-performing teams and solving complex operational challenges at scale? We are looking for a Senior Manager, Operations to lead a fulfillment center operation where you will directly influence how millions of customers receive their orders. In this role, you will own the end-to-end performance of your operation, driving safety, people experience, and operational excellence across a large team. You will balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership, making decisions that impact associates, processes, and technology every day. If you are a thoughtful leader who is passionate about developing others and continuously improving systems, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact at Amazon.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead and develop a large team of managers and front-line associates, providing continuous coaching, actionable feedback, and growth opportunities that build the next generation of operational leaders.
- Drive safety as a top priority by modeling safe behaviors, incorporating safety considerations into operational planning, and regularly reviewing safety metrics to ensure a secure work environment for all associates.
- Own operational performance across your function by identifying key performance indicators, analyzing data trends, and implementing scalable processes that deliver consistent results in quality, productivity, and cost.
- Navigate ambiguity and lead through change by creating clarity during strategic shifts, adapting team processes to meet evolving requirements, and maintaining positive team morale during high-volume periods.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to solve complex, systemic problems using root cause analysis, balancing immediate operational needs with longer-term improvements that benefit the broader network.

A day in the life
You start your day reviewing overnight performance metrics and connecting with your leadership team on safety observations and associate experience. Throughout your shift, you move between strategic planning sessions—where you evaluate capacity, staffing models, and process improvements—and time on the operations floor, coaching managers and engaging directly with associates. You close the day by aligning with cross-functional partners on upcoming initiatives and ensuring your team has clear direction for the next shift.

About the team
Our fulfillment operations team is at the heart of Amazon's promise to customers. We are focused on building an inclusive, high-performing culture where leaders at every level are empowered to innovate and improve. Our mission is to deliver operational excellence while creating an environment where associates grow and thrive. In the years ahead, we are investing in new technologies and processes that will redefine how we fulfill customer orders, and this role will be central to bringing that vision to life.

Basic Qualifications

- 7 years direct management experience, including a salaried workforce, in a manufacturing, production or distribution environment
- Prior experience with performance metrics, process improvement and Lean techniques
- Prior experience with the full staffing lifecycle, including interviewing, hiring, performance management, promotions and termination

- Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
- Interest in long-term career development through assignments in multiple FCs across the nation
- Experience with a contingent workforce during peak seasons
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations or related field. MBA preferred
