AWS Data Architect
Phoenix, AZ/ Plano, TX/ San Antonio, TX
Contract position
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise-grade data architecture solutions on AWS cloud platform.
- Build scalable, secure, and highly available data platforms using AWS native services.
- Architect modern data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time data processing solutions.
- Collaborate with Guidewire teams to integrate policy, claims, and billing data into enterprise data platforms.
- Define data modeling standards, metadata management, data governance, and data quality frameworks.
- Develop data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration strategies for structured and unstructured data sources.
- Create architecture blueprints, solution designs, and technical roadmaps aligned with enterprise standards.
- Optimize cloud data solutions for performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and security.
- Partner with business and analytics teams to support reporting, AI/ML, and advanced analytics initiatives.
- Implement security best practices including IAM, encryption, compliance, and governance controls.
- Support migration of on-premises data platforms to AWS cloud environments.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to development and engineering teams.
- Participate in architecture reviews, code reviews, and technical governance discussions.
- Work in Agile/Scrum delivery environments and collaborate across cross-functional teams.
Required Skills & Qualifications
AWS Data Architecture
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on AWS Architecture experience.
- Strong expertise in AWS data and analytics services including:
- Amazon S3
- AWS Glue
- Amazon Redshift
- AWS Lambda
- Amazon EMR
- Amazon RDS
- Amazon Athena
- Amazon Kinesis
- AWS Lake Formation
- Amazon DynamoDB
- AWS Step Functions
- Amazon CloudWatch
- Experience designing cloud-native data lakes and modern data platforms.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and scalable architecture patterns.
Data Engineering & Integration
- Experience with ETL/ELT frameworks and large-scale data processing.
- Strong knowledge of SQL and data modeling techniques.
- Experience with real-time and batch data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with APIs, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, or Kafka is preferred.
Guidewire & P&C Insurance Domain
- Strong experience in Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance domain.
- Hands-on exposure to Guidewire applications such as:
- PolicyCenter
- ClaimCenter
- BillingCenter
- Understanding of insurance data models, underwriting, claims, policy lifecycle, and billing workflows.
Cloud & DevOps
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CloudFormation).
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS is a plus.
BFSI Domain
- Experience in Banking, Financial Services, or Insurance (BFSI) domain is highly preferred.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance, security standards, and enterprise governance.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced enterprise environment.
- Experience working with distributed teams and enterprise clients.
Preferred Certifications
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty
- Guidewire Certifications (preferred)
- TOGAF or Enterprise Architecture certifications are a plus
Nice to Have
- Experience with Snowflake or Databricks on AWS.
- Exposure to AI/ML data platforms.
- Experience with data governance and master data management solutions.
- Knowledge of insurance analytics and reporting platforms.
