Driver Helper Job Summary
The Driver Helper works alongside the Route Driver to support the safe and efficient collection of waste and recyclable materials. This role involves physically demanding tasks and requires strict adherence to all company safety standards, OSHA regulations, and local, state, and federal laws.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Assist the Route Driver with the collection of residential and commercial waste or recyclables.
- Load and empty containers manually or mechanically into collection vehicles.
- Operate hoisting devices to lift and empty bins or containers into the truck hopper.
- Assist the driver with backing maneuvers and traffic spotting for safety.
- Report unsafe conditions, route issues, incidents, or injuries immediately to the Route Manager or Dispatch.
- Notify management of service interruptions such as impassable streets, blocked access, or overweight receptacles.
- Communicate customer requests or service feedback to Dispatch or the Route Manager.
- Attend all required safety meetings, briefings, and training sessions.
- Follow all Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA standards, and company operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as directed to meet customer and route requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and background check.
- Less than one (1) year of related experience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Preferred:
- Exp general labor

Schedule Requirements:
Must be available Monday through Friday. Please note that employees will work approximately 35–40 hours per week. Overtime is not permitted, and days off will rotate during the week to manage hours accordingly.
