What are the responsibilities and job description for the Robotics Operator / Field Technician (Field Service + Teleop) position at Amaru Robotics?
Amaru Robotics · Bay Area (in-office between trips) · ~50% travel to customer sites · Full-time
Amaru builds AI-powered robotic packing cells for e-commerce warehouses. Packing is the last major step in fulfillment still done entirely by hand — we automate the whole job (scan → pick → box or bag → weigh → tape → label) in a compact cell that drops into an existing packing station with zero IT integration.
We're a lean, second-time robotics team (Traptic → Bowery Farming; Zoox) with our first paying customer and robots heading to production, and backers who believe in us ($2M raised). Join early and you'll be the person keeping real robots running in real warehouses.
We need a hands-on operator/technician who can keep our machines running — remotely and in person — and be the face of Amaru at customer sites.
What you'll do
- Teleoperate our robots remotely — run the machine, handle edge cases, and help collect and label training data.
- Maintain and repair machines on-site: diagnose electro-mechanical issues, swap parts, work in the controls cabinet.
- Be the on-site point of contact for customers — professional, calm, and clear. You're the face of the company.
- Between trips, work from our SF Bay Area (Mountain View, CA) office so we can stay close to the system and hear how customers are doing.
You have
- Hands-on experience maintaining or repairing robots, control systems, or industrial machinery — robotics, heavy-equipment, automotive, manufacturing, and automation backgrounds all welcome.
- Teleoperation experience
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging instincts.
- Willingness to travel ~50% to customer sites and work flexible / on-call hours; valid driver's license.
- Based in the Bay Area, or near a customer site you'll support.
Nice to have
- Comfort in a controls cabinet — wiring relay blocks and harnesses, reading a schematic, multimeter troubleshooting, basic soldering.
- Basic Linux and network debugging, low-voltage DC / CAN bus, or embedded systems (we can teach this).
Compensation: $90K–$120k equity and benefits, depending on experience.
