This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Veterans Affairs Coordinator who will be all-in on our mission and who will assist veterans in obtaining the VA educational benefits to which they are entitled and assist with retention and graduation processes. The Veterans Affairs (VA) Coordinator will lead compliance efforts with VA audits and reporting processes and will cross-train and lead or serve as backup for Registrar’s Office reports and processes.
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: Two (2) years independently managing processes: this can include any of the following: formally managing a personal caseload of students/customers/clients/unit (advising, social work, military officer roles, etc.), or managing a program (coordinator or director), or ensuring program compliance (e.g. audit/reporting-related roles).
Preferred: Previous experience working in a US military-setting and/or with VA student populations; Previous experience with reporting and auditing; previous supervisory experience.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee applications for educational benefits and certification of enrollment.
- Manage a caseload of students.
- Monitor student progress, benefit eligibility, and academic standing.
- Ensure compliance with Federal and state regulations.
- Certify enrollment of student veterans to Veterans Administration (VA), including verifying that all courses are within the declared major program and notifying the VA of attendance and schedule changes.
- Complete annual Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) approval documentation to maintain Amarillo College’s authorization for veteran training.
- Coordinate veteran record audits and compliance surveys with TWC and VA and oversee audit processes and other VA-related inquiries.
- Recruit VA students at select on-campus and off-campus events.
- Ensure VA students are on-track toward graduation requirements and manage VA honor cord inventory.
- Lead the hiring, training, and evaluation of VA student workers following the VA hiring guidelines and AC access permission guidelines for 3rd party hires.
- Lead or assist with other Amarillo College reports or processes.

- Analytical skills that can be used to identify trends and decipher state, institutional, and federal policies and procedures.
- Ability to complete and review highly technical forms, draw information from multiple sources, and ability to apply strict attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other Amarillo College departments and community endeavors.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to travel between offices and buildings, and requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and/or maneuver office supplies as needed.
Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, and filing cabinets.
Salary: Amarillo College - Salary Schedules (actx.edu), Pay grade 12 (salary is determined by Human Resources based on education, work experience and internal comparisons).
