This is an exciting time to work for Amarillo College! We are seeking our next Adjunct Faculty - Construction Technology who will be all-in on our mission and who will teach courses in the Construction Trades industry. Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the classroom, laboratory, or online courses and in immediate preparation for respective courses such as maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught and preparing the teaching materials.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Required: Associate Degree in Construction Technology, or related field.

High quality work experience and professional certifications may substitute for education requirements.

Preferred: Bachelor Degree in Construction Technology, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Minimum of three (3) years of work experience in business and industry.

Preferred: Experience teaching at the secondary or post-secondary level.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSES:
Preferred: NCCER Level 1 Carpentry or General Construction

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach construction-related courses both in-person and online, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the subject matter.
  • Plan, develop and present organized classroom and online instruction and learning opportunities for students in accordance with approved course outlines and learning outcomes.
  • Conduct various teaching activities, including lectures, project direction, and assistance with student coursework, research, and internships.
  • Continuously assess students' growth and progress, providing feedback to prepare them for professional success.
  • Select appropriate instructional materials, such as textbooks, to enhance the learning experience.
  • Enter grades and attendance in Blackboard in a timely manner, ensuring accurate and timely record-keeping.
  • Comply with Amarillo College Policies and Academic Affairs Handbook.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Computer skills sufficient for email, Microsoft Word, Access, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint Skills.
  • Commitment to student success, innovation, collaboration and instructional quality.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction principles, practices, and technologies.
  • Familiarity with current industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and adult learning theories.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and procedures within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in teaching both in-person and online, using various instructional methods to engage students.
  • Ability to develop and organize course materials, lesson plans, and assessments that align with learning outcomes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear and effective instruction and feedback.
  • Skilled in evaluating student performance and providing constructive feedback to support their academic and professional growth.
  • Effective time management skills to balance teaching responsibilities, preparation, and administrative tasks.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and evolving educational technologies.
  • Capable of fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student participation and collaboration.
  • Ability to mentor and guide students in their coursework, research, and internships, promoting their professional development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, industry professionals, and department staff to enhance the construction program.

Salary: Amarillo College Pay Grades, please review the TEACHING OVERLOAD COMPENSATION and ADJUNCT FACULTY COMPENSATION chart to view the salary pay scale. This is based on your highest level of education.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Conditions: Must be willing to work a flexible schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays, and varying events if necessary.)

Work Environment: This job may operate in a classroom, online, or tech supported setting. This role routinely uses standard classroom and office equipment such as microphones, audio/video-recorders, computers, overhead projectors, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets and fax machines.
