What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Technician/Phlebotomist position at Amarillo Children's Clinic?
Position Summary:
Phlebotomist/Lab Technician is responsible for performing venipuncture and capillary collections, processing laboratory specimens, performing basic laboratory tests, and maintaining accurate records in accordance with clinic and regulatory standards. The position requires attention to detail, excellent patient care, and adherence to all safety and infection control protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Run Strep, RSV, Flu, FOBTS, Urines, Covid-19, Run quality control (Machines easy to be trained on)
- Computer skills, you will be trained to use our EHR system.
- Perform blood draws and specimen collections accurately and efficiently.
- Label, process, and prepare specimens for in-house or reference laboratory testing.
- Conduct basic laboratory tests and ensure quality control standards are met.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of lab equipment, supplies, and work areas.
- Verify patient identification and ensure accurate documentation in charts and lab systems.
- Follow established procedures for specimen handling, storage, and disposal.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and clinical staff.
- Report any abnormal results or specimen issues to the appropriate provider or supervisor.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Required to do scanning and faxing, ordering of supplies, replacing sharp container and more.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification preferred.
- Prior experience in a clinical or laboratory setting preferred.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic medical record systems.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Manual dexterity for specimen collection and laboratory procedures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
