Education Specialist (Secondary Math)

Primary Purpose:
To provide for the delivery of technical assistance and professional development in the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of activities that address the unique needs of the Local Education Agencies (LEAs) in the area of Secondary Math. Utilize an effective and efficient planning process based on pertinent student, campus, and district data sources for the purpose of assisting LEAs in instructional improvement and the meeting of LEA and ESC accountability requirements.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree preferred
• Texas teaching certification required

Skills

• Experience teaching secondary math required
• Texas Teaching experience required
• Demonstrated ability to set goals and creatively problem solve
• Must be service-oriented and display initiative
• Demonstrated ability to manage time, calendar, job responsibilities, and travel
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team setting required

• Proven ability to deliver content-specific professional development as well as systemic best practice (e.g., campus-wide/district-wide) professional development
• Proven ability to train and coach personnel in various school roles (e.g., teachers, support staff, principals, central office staff)

Working Conditions:

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computer and peripherals
• Posture: Must be physically able to tolerate prolonged sitting, frequent standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and standing
• Motion: Must be physically able to tolerate frequent standing and walking, repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching, occasional driving
• Lifting: Must be physically able to tolerate regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds or more)
• Environment: Must be physically able to work inside; tolerate frequent regionwide travel and occasional statewide travel; regular exposure to noise
• Mental Demands: Must be able to work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours on occasion
• Regular Attendance is an essential function

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Provides effective, research-based secondary mathematics instructional support for campuses in Region 16 (e.g., ESC-designated instructional coaching model, professional development, PLC support, grading of artifacts, etc.)
2. Provides content, best practices and pedagogical expertise in technical assistance and professional development to support improvement of instructional practices for monitoring and evaluating student learning
3. Collaborates with colleagues in and beyond the ESC to identify professional development needs through detailed data analysis and self-reflection to provide quality services to customers that positively impact student learning
4. Sets, modifies, and meets short- and long-term professional goals based on self-assessment, reflection, peer and supervisor feedback, contemporary research, and analysis of student learning
5. Creates ongoing collegial relationships with customers
6. Travels as a part of job responsibilities
7. Maintains a functioning cell phone and is accessible through this phone as deemed appropriate by the director. A functioning cell phone means that it is charged, activated, messages checked, and mailbox emptied regularly
8. Reports for work ready to perform responsibilities
9. Performs duties that directly and/or indirectly impact student performance in Region 16
10. Maintains a professional level of confidentiality regarding all ESC matters
11. Supports the ESC Manifesto: mission, goals, and objectives of the ESC strategic plan
12. Upholds and adheres to safety rules and policies of the ESC safety program
13. Performs professional responsibilities as required by ESC policies, processes, and procedures (e.g. technical assistance, time and effort, etc.)
14. Manages time, calendar, and job responsibilities to meet deadlines
15. Meets proficiency levels of required technology skills as outlined by supervisor
16. Incorporates appropriate technology in daily work and exhibits continual growth in technologies as outlined by supervisor
17. Performs other duties as assigned
