The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Math Teacher to join our team on a temporary basis to cover maternity leave from January 1, 2026, through June 30, 2026. This role offers the opportunity to inspire and support middle school scholars in grades 5–8 during a critical stage of their academic journey.
Teachers at Amani create classroom environments that foster scholars’ understanding and appreciation of the role of mathematics in everyday life. You are the leader of your classroom, building strong relationships with students while pushing them to achieve the school mission. You will teach multiple math sections daily, lead an advisory group, support small group learning, and maintain regular communication with families.
Responsibilities
Deliver engaging, rigorous, and differentiated lessons using the provided curriculum
Use formative and summative assessments to track student progress and adjust instruction
Analyze student data to inform and tailor instructional practices
Maintain Google Classroom and other online learning platforms
Collaborate with colleagues in planning meetings, data discussions, and Professional Learning Communities
Participate in weekly schoolwide professional development
Create a positive, structured, and productive classroom environment aligned to Amani’s core values
Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues
Support grade-level activities and school-wide events
Location and Commitments
School day: 7:45 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday–Friday
School year: This role covers January–June 2026
On-site in Mount Vernon, NY
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required)
NYS Teaching Certification preferred, but not required
Experience teaching middle school students (preferred)
Proficiency with Google Suite and Google Classroom
Commitment to high expectations and closing the achievement gap
Start Date: January 1, 2026
