Position OverviewAmani Public Charter School is seeking a mission-aligned, solutions-oriented 5th & 6th Grade Science Teacher to plan and deliver lab-based, critical-thinking science instruction grounded in the NYS Intermediate Level Science standards. This teacher will build the foundational scientific literacy, lab skills, and habits of mind that carry students toward success on the 8th-Grade NYS Science Exam and into competitive high school science programs. Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Planning & Delivery- Plan and implement lab-based, critical-thinking science lessons aligned to NYS Intermediate Level Science standards for grades 5 and 6.
- Build content knowledge and lab skills that prepare students for the 8th Grade NYS Science Exam.
- Structure and deliver engaging, high-impact lessons that meet academic standards.
- Understand how to manage time, space, transitions, and activities for high levels of productivity.
- Utilize interactive, online lab activities to enrich instruction where appropriate.
- Use formative and summative assessment strategies to assess learner progress and use data to plan ongoing instruction.
- Analyze assessments that measure progress toward standards and use data to inform and differentiate instructional practices.
- Be accountable for students' mastery of academic standards.
- Create a positive, structured learning environment in which students observe the school's core values, high expectations, and code of conduct.
- Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior.
- Focus constantly on student learning, thinking critically and strategically to respond to student learning needs.
- Communicate effectively and consistently with students, families, and colleagues.
- Participate in and support grade-level activities and school-wide functions throughout the school year.
- Participate in an annual staff orientation and training.
- Engage fully in ongoing professional development and coaching.
- School day is 7:45 AM – 4:00 PM.
- The school year runs from the third week in August through the end of June.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related subject area required; Master's degree preferred.
- NYS Teaching Certification strongly encouraged.
- Proficiency in Google Suite and Google Classroom preferred.
- Previous teaching experience with 5th–6th-grade (middle-school-aged) children preferred.
