Responsibilities And Duties
- Principal contact between the Maintenance department and the plant
- As assigned, manage Contractors and oversee jobs through completion.
- Fill in Planning & Scheduling Supervisor duties while the supervisor is out of the office.
- Review, prioritize, schedule and close corrective work orders.
- Modify existing or develop new Preventative and Predictive Maintenance tasks.
- Review weekly backlog data for assigned area(s) of responsibility and conduct meetings to discuss.
- Meet with electrical, mechanical and production owners for jobs that must be planned.
- Use planning tools to determine parts, materials, rental equipment and contractor support necessary for jobs to be performed.
- Coordinate parts/rentals/contractor needs and submit requisitions.
- Develop/update Bill of Materials (BOM) for equipment.
- Submit Requisitions in JD Edwards CAM for parts or contractor services.
- Develop Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) containing details to perform job and field validate procedure.
- Complete parts received verification.
- Ensure job parts are kitted.
- Ensure contractors are notified of safety training requirements before arrival on site.
- Follow up with contractors to ensure they receive a Purchase Order, before their expected arrival on site.
- Review work orders for parts used, before work orders being closed.
- Lead improvement opportunities/projects.
- Collaborate with differing groups across the plant including: engineering, operations, maintenance, contractors and management.
- Following the appropriate training, be able to effectively use required JDE functionality to meet requirements of the position.
- Participation in Amalgamated’s safety programs and factory safety culture. Reports all safety concerns and takes corrective action for a safety hazard identified that could impact themselves or others.
- Participation in functional focus groups and will provide cross function support/ coverage within the Planning and Scheduling Group.
- Receives all work orders from requesting departments, accepting emergency work. Advance identified work to executable work orders for the trade team
- Ensures all plans developed are consistent with the Amalgamated planning standards. This will include safety procedures, maintenance standards/procedures, identification of required resources, estimated task durations & relationships, materials, equipment, and services required to execute the work identified.
- The planner is expected to report on his/her progress on a weekly basis and communicate any issues that are preventing plans from progressing.
- Examines jobs to be done and determines best way to accomplish the work. Applies actual field condition information, relevant technical data, trade knowledge, personal experience, and where appropriate, input from maintenance, operations, and technical resources to develop high quality executable plans. Consults with requester, Maintenance Supervisor, Engineering or functional crews when necessary to ensure appropriate content and detail provided in work plans.
- Obtains blueprints, drawings, instructional manuals and special procedures, as needed. Makes any additional sketches, diagrams, etc., necessary to clarify the intent of the work order.
- Champion factory and company safety. Ensures safety needs are given a top priority in work planning.
- Estimates jobs with sequence of steps, the number of tradespersons and required labor hours for each step. Estimates cost of each work order in terms of direct labor, materials required and total cost.
- Maintains backlog files of work orders waiting planning and/or scheduling in accordance with their priority limits with an estimated completion date
- Verifies the availability of parts, materials and special tools required for job execution prior to scheduling.
- Assembly of fully planned work into formal job packages for transport to Department Maintenance Groups, Services Group, and Projects Group for execution.
- Knowledge of each department’s PM workload
- Recommends equipment to be included in preventive maintenance programs
- Submit purchase requisitions of all predetermined parts, materials and special tools. Specify material call outs, read technical prints.
- Arranges any safety inspection, fire and standby watch.
- Facilitates daily meetings with the operations supervisors and the maintenance supervisors to discuss work order approval, schedule and short-term projections on maintenance needs.
- Develops a file of standard job plans for regularly recurring repair jobs. Development and maintain job library to ensure complete and accurate records consistent with Amalgamated planning standards.
- Plant stake holder, Precision Maintenance execution and schedule compliance.
- Inter-campaign maintenance planning development.
- Learn/Understand the process and operations of the facility.
- Reports to the Planning & Scheduling Supervisor
- Works closely with Operations and Maintenance supervision
- Works closely with Storeroom and Procurement personnel
- Project Management skills.
- Mechanical/electrical background necessary and technical school background desired.
- Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours, materials and visualize job execution.
- Good oral/written communication skills.

- Working knowledge of computers in a reasonable training period.
- Good planning, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to understand what constitutes good instructions.
