What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Cost Estimator position at AM Fogarty & Associates?
Founded in 1972, AM Fogarty & Associates provides independent pre-construction cost consulting services to architects, engineers and public-sector clients across Massachusetts and New England.
For more than 50 years, we've built our reputation on technical excellence, trusted client relationships and accurate, independent cost advice. Today, we're investing in the future of the firm and looking for an experienced Construction Cost Estimator to join our growing team.
This role is designed for an experienced estimator with a strong technical foundation who is ready to take the next step toward becoming a Senior Construction Cost Estimator.
From day one, you'll take meaningful ownership of estimates across a diverse portfolio of projects while working alongside our experienced senior estimating team. You'll gain hands-on exposure to complex assignments, client meetings, estimate reconciliations and technical reviews, with a clear pathway to becoming a fully autonomous Senior Estimator within the next 1–2 years.
We're looking for someone who can contribute immediately, while continuing to develop the technical judgement, client leadership and project ownership required to independently lead projects from end to end.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates across education, municipal, commercial, healthcare and institutional projects.
- Develop conceptual estimates and cost plans throughout all phases of design.
- Take ownership of significant estimating responsibilities across multiple concurrent projects.
- Review and interpret drawings, specifications and construction documentation.
- Participate in estimate reconciliations, technical reviews and value engineering.
- Participate in client meetings and project discussions.
- Maintain cost data, estimating resources and market intelligence.
- Contribute to AM Fogarty's estimating standards and best practices.
We're looking for someone who:
- Has a proven track record of independently preparing high-quality quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates.
- Can work across multiple design phases, from conceptual through construction documents.
- Can interpret complex drawings and specifications and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Is comfortable participating in estimate reconciliations and technical reviews.
- Communicates professionally with architects, engineers and other clients.
- Has strong architectural, structural and civil estimating knowledge.
- Has excellent Excel skills and experience with industry-standard estimating and takeoff software.
- Has the judgement, ambition and desire to develop into a fully autonomous Senior Estimator.
- Base salary: $125,000–$140,000, commensurate with experience.
- Health insurance.
- 401(k) with company match
- Generous Paid Time Off.
- Hands-on mentorship from a highly experienced Chief/Senior estimating team.
- A clear, near-term pathway to a Senior Estimator role.
- Opportunity to participate in the firm's long-term incentive program.
- Long-term career progression within a growing independent consultancy.
This is an opportunity for an estimator who has already built a strong technical foundation but wants the experience, mentorship and has the ambition to reach the next level.
You'll join a highly experienced team, take meaningful responsibility from day one and have the opportunity to develop into one of the firm's future senior technical and client-facing leaders.
If you're ambitious, committed to technical excellence and excited by the opportunity to help shape the future of a respected independent consultancy, we'd love to hear from you.
