AFA Mission Statement: The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure.
Position Summary: The Community Bus Driver will be responsible for the safe transport of individuals and caregivers impacted by Alzheimer’s and Dementia to and from the Barabara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center in Amityville, Long Island. This person will be responsible for transporting passengers along assigned routes while providing excellent customer service and maintaining a clean, orderly vehicle. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with the public, takes pride in safe driving, and is looking for a part-time schedule.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Safely operate a community bus along designated routes according to schedule.
- Pick up and drop off passengers at approved stops, ensuring a positive and respectful experience.
- Assist passengers with mobility needs, including securing wheelchairs when required.
- Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance needs.
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with Senior Manager regarding any changes in the assigned schedule.
- Maintain accurate records, including mileage, passenger counts, and incident reports.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and presentable vehicle at all times.
Qualifications:
- Valid State Driver’s License.
- Clean driving record with no violations.
- Must pass background check, drug screening, and required medical evaluations.
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in unexpected situations.
- Previous professional driving experience preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to assist passengers and handle mobility equipment.
- Must be able to sit for the duration of the assigned driving schedule.
- Ability to perform routine vehicle inspections, including bending, lifting, and walking around the bus.
