Commercial Plumbing Estimator
Alvarez Plumbing & Air Conditioning | Tampa, FL | Full-time | [$85,000 – $110,000] per year
About the role
Own the numbers on commercial plumbing bids, from the first set of plans through handoff to the field. You'll work directly with leadership on bid strategy, see your estimates carried out by the same team that built them, and have a path to [Senior Estimator / Preconstruction Manager / Project Manager]. We bid project types in different industries across Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk and Manatee Counties.
What you'll do
- Review plans, specs, addenda, and bid forms, and perform detailed plumbing takeoffs
- Build labor and pricing using approved units, crew productivity, and project conditions
- Compare vendor and subcontractor quotes on an equal-scope basis and flag scope gaps and risks
- Prepare RFIs, assumptions, exclusions, alternates, and proposals
- Present estimates to leadership and support negotiations and best-and-final offers
- Hand off a complete turnover package to the PM and Superintendent on awarded work
- Compare estimates to actual results and update databases and labor units
What you bring
- 10 years of commercial plumbing construction experience, including 5 years in estimating
- Hands-on plumbing takeoff and bid submission experience
- Working knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, code, and construction methods
- Strong Excel skills and experience with takeoff software and PDF tools
- High school diploma or equivalent (trade and estimating experience can substitute for a degree)
Nice to have
- Associate or bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or business
- Procore experience
- Knowledge of Hillsborough and Pinellas County permitting
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
MEP/mechanical estimators, plumbing PMs, project engineers, and senior foremen or journeymen ready to move into estimating are encouraged to apply.
Work environment
Primarily in-office at our Tampa location with one flexible day per week after ramp-up, occasional site walks with PPE.
