Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join our corporate accounting team, reporting directly to the Corporate Controller. This role is ideal for an experienced accounting professional with a strong foundation in cost, general, and/or public accounting—preferably within the construction, infrastructure, or utilities industries.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. This individual will collaborate cross-functionally with corporate teams (FP&A, Technical Accounting, Risk, Benefits) and subsidiary accounting groups, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills. A proactive mindset and a focus on continuous improvement are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post monthly corporate journal entries with supporting documentation
- Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations, including rollforwards and variance analysis; investigate and resolve discrepancies
- Analyze and document fluctuations in corporate account balances, identifying and explaining variances versus expectations
- Review weekly and monthly Work-in-Progress (WIP) and unbilled revenue schedules in collaboration with Project Managers
- Evaluate job cost reporting and project P&Ls, ensuring accuracy and completeness; recommend and record adjustments as needed
- Support work order setup and maintenance for project accounting activities
- Assist in the monthly consolidation process, including:
- Reviewing subsidiary reporting packages
- Preparing consolidated schedules and rollforwards
- Investigating and resolving intercompany variances
- Prepare annual standalone and consolidated financial statements for multiple entities
- Maintain and enhance the general ledger structure, including account and entity setup and hierarchy updates
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy in the close and consolidation cycle
- Support internal and external audit processes, including SOX 404 compliance and documentation requests
- Partner with the Corporate Controller to help guide and support General and Project Accounting team activities
- Contribute to special projects, system enhancements, and ad hoc analyses
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- CPA license strongly preferred
- 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including a combination of general ledger and corporate accounting, cost or project accounting (construction/utilities strongly preferred), and public accounting experience (Big 4 or large firm highly desirable)
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP; experience with revenue recognition, leases, fixed assets, and debt accounting preferred
- Hands-on experience with job costing, WIP schedules, and project-based accounting environments
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills required)
- Experience with ERP and financial systems such as Oracle, Hyperion, BlackLine, or Spectrum is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex data, solve problems, and meet tight deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Interest or experience in process automation and data tools (e.g., Power Query, Power Automate, Python, SQL, Copilot)
