Role Description The Senior Accountant is a full-time, on-site role based in San Francisco, CA, responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations and supporting the financial health of ARCC. This role prepares and reviews journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements, and ensures accurate, timely month-end and year-end closes. The Senior Accountant monitors budgets, tracks grant and program expenditures, and assists with financial reporting to internal stakeholders, auditors, and funders. Responsibilities include maintaining general ledger integrity, supporting audits and compliance requirements, and recommending process improvements for accounting workflows and internal controls. The role collaborates closely with program, development, and operations teams to provide financial insights that support ARCC’s mission-driven programs.
Qualifications
- Strong accounting and finance skills, including general ledger management, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting for leadership and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of nonprofit or fund accounting, including grant tracking, restricted funds, and compliance with relevant regulations and reporting standards.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and data analysis).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial team members.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams on-site.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CMA, or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Prior experience as a Senior Accountant or in a similar accounting role; nonprofit experience is highly desirable.
